The State Development Coach - Metro Women is responsible for delivering high-quality coaching across the State Performance Program (SPP), State Development Program (SDP) and Future Development Program (FDP), supporting identified Victorian athletes and coaches at a critical stage of the performance pathway. This role plays a key part in preparing participants for progression to national and international competition, with a strong focus on developing future Victorian Olympians, Paralympians and World Championship representatives.

Key responsibilities for the role

Athlete Development & Support

  • Under the guidance of the Head Coach - Metro, support the collaborative design and delivery of the State Development Program (SDP) and Future Development Program (FDP) across six (6) identified metropolitan hubs, working closely with the State Development Coach - Metro Men.
  • Actively contribute to the on-court delivery and coaching within the State Performance Program (SPP).
  • Identify emerging talent and provide targeted support to selected athletes, coaches and affiliated Basketball Victoria (BV) member associations.
  • Deliver a best-practice Daily Training Environment (DTE) that supports the holistic development and individual potential of identified athletes.
  • Ensure all athletes train in safe, appropriately supervised environments and are monitored by allocated coaches.
  • Support improved performance outcomes for Victorian athletes and coaches across national and international pathways.

Program Delivery, Monitoring & Improvement

  • Analyse outcomes across Development, Elite and High-Performance programs, preparing reports and recommendations to drive continuous improvement.
  • In collaboration with the Head Coach, manage and evolve the Victorian Style of Play document, ensuring consistent awareness and implementation across the Victorian basketball pathway.
  • Ensure effective communication with athletes and families, including hosting program information sessions and responding to enquiries throughout program delivery.
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of each athlete’s training and competition program through the Head Coach.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to support the progression and aspirations of Victorian athletes and coaches.

Program & Event Management

  • Maintain athlete and coach depth charts, providing regular updates to the Head Coach - Metro.
  • Monitor, support and evaluate the performance of network coaches in collaboration with the Head Coach - Metro and State Development Coach - Metro Men.
  • Support the delivery of our partners in medical, wellbeing and recovery arrangements for training activities and competitions.
  • Lead and Head Coach key pathway events and camps, including:
    • Phase One and Phase Two SDP/FDP Selection Camps
    • SDP Introductory Camps and All-State Camps
    • Southern Cross Challenge (including appointing and mentoring coaching staff)
    • Jamboree Tournaments
    • Country Metro Challenge tournaments
  • Support the Head Coach - Metro in State Team selection processes.
  • Work closely with the Metro High Performance Administrator to coordinate court bookings, coach appointments and athlete communication to ensure high-quality program delivery.

Basketball Victoria (BV) is the peak body for the sport of Basketball in Victoria. The broad objectives of BV are to provide for the advancement, encouragement, conduct, promotion and administration of Basketball in Victoria. We are a member driven governing body, providing a range of services, leagues and competitions for over 140 affiliated associations.

In addition to supporting?our affiliated Basketball associations, BV delivers a number of participation programs making basketball Everybody’s Game, as well as player, coach and technical official development programs to encourage the development of socially desirable attitudes and values towards physical fitness, skill acquisition and performance pathways.

Preferred but not essential experience:

All offers of employment are subject to satisfactory proof of eligibility to work in Australia, reference checks, a police check and a Working With Children Check. All applicants must have a current Victorian Driver’s License.

This role will be based at Wantirna South but involves travel around Victoria and includes nights and weekend work overseeing activity. Employees will be reimbursed for travel expenses.

  • Demonstrated technical and tactical Basketball knowledge and minimum five (5) years’ coaching experience at an association level with the ability to identify high potential talent.
  • Hold or be able to obtain a Basketball Australia Representative Coach accreditation.
  • High level of understanding and awareness of BV’s Child Safety policy and protocols.
  • Highly organised with the ability to be self-motivated, responsive, and flexible in an environment with time pressures and multiple priorities.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to groups in a positive and motivating manner.
  • The desire to develop and educate others in the field of basketball and coaching.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and a proven ability to build professional relationships with a large, diverse group of stakeholders, including strong existing relationships with key influencers across Victorian Basketball.
  • The willingness to commit to the inclusion of all members of our culturally diverse community in the sport of Basketball.
  • The ability to analyse data and make recommendations for future improvement.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft - Outlook, Word, Excel, StackTeamsApp, Sportscode, HUDL).
  • Effective time management skills.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in supervising staff and managing a high-performance team.
  • Previous coaching experience at an elite level.
  • A tertiary qualification in a sports field or a related discipline.

You are an experienced and passionate basketball coach, with a strong commitment to athlete development, and the support of pathways for all within the game. You bring a strong technical and tactical understanding of the game, combined with the ability to identify, nurture and support high-potential athletes, and coaches, at a critical stage of their development.
