About the role:
We are on the hunt for a professional Full Time Duty Manager to ensure the safe, efficient and effective operation of State Sport Centres Trust (SSCT) venues at the State Netball Hockey Centre (SNHC) in Parkville.
As a Duty Manager, you’ll play a vital role in the team that is responsible in overseeing operational safety and emergency management during opening hours. You’ll ensure the wellbeing of patrons, staff, spectators, officials, athletes, contractors, and visitors alike.
As the key point of escalation for incidents, issues and emergencies. You’ll work closely with venue management to swiftly respond to and resolve any unplanned events. The State Netball Hockey Centre hosts a wide range of events across the calendar year, predominately hosted on weekends, and while the Duty Manager team works on a rotating roster. Please note weekend availability is required.
As a Duty Manager your primary responsibilities will include:
- Ensure safety and security of staff, patrons, and facilities
- Act as Chief Warden and respond to emergencies, including first aid
- Lead, guide, and support staff, contractors, and event hirers
- Monitor venue activities via CCTV and access systems
- Conduct inspections, audits, and risk reporting/mitigation
- Manage incidents, troubleshoot onsite issues, and enforce safe practices
- Oversee contractor inductions and emergency evacuation drills
- Support major events, including crowd and stakeholder management
- Assist with budgets and operational project delivery
- Work on a rotating roster (morning, mid, evening shifts)
Required skills and Qualifications:
- Experience managing staff, contractors, and stakeholders in a sporting venue environment
- Demonstrated experience in a management or supervisory role in large facilities
- Experience in WH&S policies, risk, and emergency management
- Understanding of quality standards in venue presentation and operations
- Evidence of strong stakeholder relationship management and conflict resolution skills
- Knowledge of the Sport and Recreation industry
- Problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset
- Ability to control risk at events and enforce crowd control practices
- Maintain required qualifications and participate in training sessions
- Current Pool Lifeguard and First Aid certificates including CPR and Advanced Resuscitation, First Aid management of Asthma and Anaphylaxis, Current Working with Children Check, Responsible Service of Alcohol, Australian driver’s licence, Aquatic Technical Operator (willing to obtain)
