Don't miss this rare and exciting opportunity to join our High-Performance team at Basketball Victoria (BV). The successful candidate will provide leadership, knowledge and support to affiliate members of BV throughout the State of Victoria. Working within a team of four Head Coaches, you will work in conjunction with each other to run the State program as a whole but with a focus on the assigned portfolio (Metro Women). 

Leading the coaching of the National Performance Program, the State Performance Program, the State Development Program, and the related State Team Program portfolio for identified Victorian athletes and coaches to successfully perform at a national and international level the Head Coach (Metro Women) will maintain the priority to develop future Victorian Olympians, Paralympians and World Championship participants.   

Key responsibilities for the role - but are not limited to 

  • Oversee the National Performance Program (NPP), State Performance Program (SPP), State Development Program (SDP) and Future Development Program (FDP) across six metropolitan hubs 
  • Lead talent identification and provide high-quality support to identified athletes, coaches and BV member associations 
  • Deliver a best-practice Daily Training Environment (DTE) for athlete development 
  • Review program outcomes across Development, Elite and High-Performance streams and drive continuous improvement 
  • Lead, monitor and evaluate State Team, NPP, SPP, SDP and FDP coaching staff 
  • Oversee Victorian State Team selection, preparation and competition performance 
  • Act as Head Coach for Talent ID, SDP selection and BV development camps 
  • Manage athlete agreements, individual performance plans and pathway depth charts 
  • Maintain and implement the Victorian Style of Play across the pathway 
  • Support National Championship campaigns and oversee Phase One and Two selection processes 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to advance athlete and coach development 

The role will require regular travel around Victoria and on occasion interstate and overnight stays. The hours will need to be flexible to meet the requirements of the role.

The successful candidate will provide leadership, knowledge and support to affiliate members of BV throughout the state of Victoria. Working within a team of four Head Coaches, you will work in conjunction with each other to run the Player Pathways program as a whole with a focus on the assigned cohort across Victoria. 

Preferred but not essential experience: 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in supervising staff and managing a team.  
  • Previous coaching and/or playing experience at an elite level.  
  • Demonstrated technical and tactical Basketball knowledge. 
  • Highly organised with the ability to be self-motivated, responsive and flexible in an environment with time pressures and multiple priorities.  
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to groups in a positive and motivating manner.  
  • The desire to develop and educate others in the field of basketball and coaching.  
  • High level of emotional intelligence and a proven ability to build professional relationships with a large, diverse group of stakeholders, including strong existing relationships with key influencers across Victorian Basketball.
  • The willingness to commit to the inclusion of all members of our culturally diverse community in the sport of Basketball.  
  • The ability to analyse data and make recommendations for future improvement. 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Previous coaching and/or playing experience at an elite level. 
  • Current WWCC 
  • Current Driver’s Licence 
  • Coach Accreditation - Association Level (minimum). 

Desirable 

  • A tertiary qualification in a sports field or a related discipline. 
  • Experience in a sport, peak-body or NFP setting.   
  • A level of understanding into the operations and commercial aspects of Basketball.  
  • Ability to prepare and monitor annual budgets for direct areas of responsibility.   
  • Appropriate qualifications in sport and/or business.  
  • First Aid qualifications.
