Catering to over 6,500 members, the Association offers a variety of basketball programs to players of all ages and abilities. As a not-for-profit, aligned with Basketball NSW, our priority lies in providing the best possible experience to our members.

Our Organisational Structure
We are a small but committed team that has, for the past 6 months, been undergoing a restructure of its structure, programs and staffing.
This new ‘Community and High Performance Manager’ role, is a full-time opportunity with the association, managing a crucial aspect of our operations.
Role Overview
The Community & High Performance Manager plays a pivotal leadership role in shaping the member experience across HKBA’s community programs while driving the strategic development of athletes, coaches, and performance pathways. This position blends hands-on program delivery with long-term planning, ensuring HKBA remains a benchmark Association in both participation and performance.
Reproting to the General Manager, this role suits a proactive, values-driven leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about building strong community connections and high-performance standards.
This role is based at the Brickpit Stadium in Thornleigh with the expectation of attending a variety of venues and meeting stakeholders around the Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai areas and beyound, as required. There is also some work from home flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Innovation
- Design and launch new basketball programs that meet emerging needs and participation trends across community and high performance.
- Review and enhance existing programs such as school outreach, holiday camps, and inclusive initiatives.
- Develop clear program frameworks, delivery models, and quality standards.
- Build a clear pathway for players from Beginner to Local Comp to Rep to YL to Waratah and NBL1.
Community Engagement & Growth
- Build strong relationships with local schools, councils, community groups, and partner organisations.
- Drive participation growth through targeted outreach, partnerships, and community activations with a priority on female basketball.
- Represent HKBA at community events, school visits, and promotional activities as required.
- Ensure all programs reflect HKBA’s values of inclusion, respect, and development.
Athlete & Coach Development (High Performance)
- Oversee athlete development initiatives outside the Representative Program, such as development academies, skills clinics, and performance workshops.
- Create structured development pathways that complement the Representative Program.
- Support coach development through education sessions, mentoring, and resource creation.
- Collaborate with Basketball NSW to align HKBA pathways with state and national frameworks while furthering our engagements with these.
Operational Leadership
- Recruit, train, and lead coaches, coordinators, and casual staff delivering community and high eprformance programs.
- Manage scheduling, staffing, compliance, and operational delivery across all community and development programs.
- Ensure programs meet HKBA’s standards for safety, member protection, and quality assurance.
- Contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, and reporting for community and development portfolios.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years’ coaching experience across junior representative, senior league, or equivalent high-performance pathways.
- Basketball Australia Level 2 (Association) Coach Accreditation (or higher).
- Demonstrated experience in high-performance player development, including skill acquisition, game concepts, and age-appropriate progression.
- Proven ability to design and deliver structured development programs across multiple age groups (U8–U23). Past experience in female basketball is a big bonus.
- Experience working within a club pathway environment, aligning beginner, development, and youth league programs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage athletes, parents, coaches, and a wide range of stakeholders.
- Capacity to work flexible and non-traditional hours as required.
- Valid driver’s licence.
Desirable
- Experience coaching or supporting athletes in State Programs, National Championships, or Senior League competitions.
- Exposure to professional or semi-professional environments (e.g., NBL1, NBL, WNBL, or equivalent).
- Experience in female athlete development and/or girls-only programming.
- Demonstrated leadership in coach mentoring or coach education.
- Experience working within or alongside high-performance systems (e.g., performance planning, athlete monitoring, film review).
