About the role
The Sport Development & Community Participation team coordinates access to a range of facilities and programs that support Wyndham residents to participate in sport and physical activity. The team manage the programming of a network of 50 outdoor sport and recreation reserves, foster relationships with over 150 community sporting clubs, community groups and schools and deliver a suite of community participation programs which attract 12,500 attendees annually.
As the Team Leader, you’ll thrive working across a broad range of tasks in a fast-paced environment. You’ll forge strong connections with clubs and community groups to support their growth and sustainability goals, and foster connection and alignment between the team and departments across Council to deliver a quality service. You’ll identify and implement opportunities for more community members be physically active and improve administrative processes to provide better customer experiences.
To be successful in this role you will value the development of strong relationships, possess a deep understanding of community sport and its organisation, have the skills to problem solve and collaborate on outcomes with a diverse range of stakeholders and lead the team with a positive outlook and focus on continuous improvement.
What your day will look like
- Supervise the day to day operations of the Sport Development and Community Participation team.
- Work alongside three Sport & Recreation Development Officers to manage the use of all sporting reserves and pavilions ensuring equitable community use and access.
- Liaise and advocate with users, leagues and associations, peak sporting bodies and other stakeholders to resolve issues and capitalise on opportunities.
- Plan and implement development opportunities for community sporting clubs, community groups and recreation service providers to enhance the delivery of programs and services for the community.
- Work alongside two Inclusion & Participation Officers to facilitate opportunities for greater community participation in physical activity, particularly for those who experience barriers to participation.
What you will bring
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Sport Management, Recreation Planning, Community Development or an allied discipline.
- Extensive practical experience in sport and recreation facility management and programming.
- Demonstrated experience in working with community groups and clubs to develop innovative programs and projects that encourage greater participation
- Proven leadership and staff supervision and performance management experience.
- Demonstrated competency in communication including high quality written communications and negotiation skills
- Knowledge and experience in budgeting and financial management principles and procedures
