ROLE TITLE: Competitions Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Marketing & Operations Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: 

  • Referee Development Officer (Competitions)
  • Supervisors (Competitions)

LOCATION: Blacktown

STATUS: Part-time (30 hrs p/w)

REMUNERATION: The final salary and package will be communicated with the successful applicant.

Job Summary

The Competitions Coordinator will be responsible for managing all aspects of CBBA’s basketball competitions, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organisational skills and a passion for fostering competitive and recreational basketball opportunities in the Blacktown community.

Responsibilities

1. Competition Management

  • Plan, schedule, and manage CBBA’s domestic and school competitions across multiple venues.
  • Maintain up-to-date fixtures, results, and ladders using the Basketball Connect system.
  • Coordinate with the referee development officer, venue supervisors, and team managers to ensure competition standards are met.
  • Address and resolve game-day issues, including disputes, complaints, forfeits, etc. in a professional and timely manner.
  • Attend domestic competition nights to assist with registrations, memberships, etc. as required. 

2. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary point of contact for teams, clubs, coaches, and players regarding competition-related matters.
  • Collaborate with venue managers to ensure court availability and smooth operations.
  • Build positive relationships with referees, volunteers, and participants to enhance the competition experience.

3. Compliance and Policy Adherence

  • Ensure all competitions adhere to CBBA, Basketball NSW, and relevant national governing body rules and regulations.
  • Maintain and enforce codes of conduct for players, coaches, and spectators.
  • Monitor and address disciplinary issues in line with CBBA policies.

4. Data and Reporting

  • Use competition management systems to track participation trends and generate insights.
  • Provide regular reports on competition performance, participation numbers, and feedback.
  • Monitor financial aspects of competitions, including team registrations and fines.

5. Event Support

  • Assist with CBBA tournaments, school holiday programs and representative programs as needed.
  • Coordinate special events, such as finals days, awards presentations, and development programs.

6. Innovation and Development

  • Identify opportunities to improve competition formats, processes, and participant experience.
  • Support the growth of junior, senior, and mixed competitions in the Blacktown area.
  • Stay informed of industry best practices and trends in basketball competition management.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Experience in administration.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong time management skills. 
  • Ability to use/learn new technologies and tools. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, engaging, and audience-appropriate content.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Drive).
  • Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWC). 
  • Current driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of basketball rules, regulations, and competition structures.
  • Proficiency in competition management platforms (e.g., Basketball Connect or similar).
  • Experience working with referees and volunteers.
  • Experience in sports administration, event management, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with budgeting and financial tracking.
