Position Purpose

The A Grade Netball Coach is responsible for leading, developing, and inspiring the club’s premier netball team. This role ensures players are prepared physically, mentally, and strategically to perform at the highest level of competition, while fostering a positive, inclusive, and values-driven team culture. The coach also plays a vital role in strengthening community connections and supporting youth pathways to ensure the long-term success of the club.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Coaching
    • Plan and deliver structured training sessions that build skills, fitness, and game strategies.
    • Provide clear direction, motivation, and constructive feedback to players.
    • Lead the team on game day with tactical decision-making and calm authority.
  • Player Development
    • Identify individual strengths and areas for improvement.
    • Support player growth through mentoring, skill progression, and performance reviews.
    • Encourage youth pathways and integration of emerging talent into the senior squad.
  • Team Culture & Values
    • Promote respect, fairness, and inclusivity across the playing group.
    • Build strong relationships with players, volunteers, and the broader club community.
    • Uphold the club’s values and act as a role model both on and off the court.
  • Community Engagement
    • Actively participate in club events, sponsor functions, and community initiatives.
    • Represent the team and club positively in the wider community.
    • Encourage player involvement in outreach activities that strengthen local connections.
  • Youth Retention & Pathways
    • Collaborate with junior coaches to create clear development pathways into senior grades.
    • Mentor younger players, fostering confidence and commitment to the club.
    • Promote a supportive environment that attracts and retains youth through positive role modelling and opportunities for growth.
  • Administration & Communication
    • Work collaboratively with the Netball Coordinator and Committee on team logistics.
    • Communicate effectively and respectfully with players regarding training schedules, expectations, and feedback.
    • Contribute to club events, sponsor engagement, and community initiatives where appropriate.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated coaching experience at senior or representative level.
  • Strong knowledge of netball skills, tactics, and conditioning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and manage a diverse group of athletes.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive team culture, community engagement, and youth retention.
  • Relevant coaching accreditation.

Time Commitment

  • Weekly training sessions (1-2 per week).
  • Match day coaching and preparation.
  • Attendance at club functions and occasional committee meetings.
