AFL Masters Victorian Metropolitan Superules Football League (AFLVM) is seeking an experienced, motivated and relationship-driven Umpire Coordinator to lead, recruit and support our umpiring group for the 2026 season.
This role is perfect for someone already working in an umpiring or officiating administration role, such as in community football, local leagues, or umpire associations who is looking to broaden their experience, earn additional income, and apply their expertise in a well-structured, enjoyable “Footy for Fun” environment.

About the Role
The Umpire Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, developing, supporting and allocating umpires across our competition. This pivotal role requires an energetic leader with strong stakeholder management skills and a commitment to building a positive, high-performing umpiring community.
You’ll work closely with clubs, current and emerging umpires, umpire associations, AFL Victoria and the AFL to ensure a sustainable and skilled pool of officials. You will also oversee integration with OfficialsHQ, help enhance umpire pathways, and drive best-practice education, training and matchday processes.
This role is ideal for someone with umpiring experience (field or goal), a background in umpire development, or strong connections within officiating networks.
Key Responsibilities
Governance & Administration
- Lead with transparency and integrity, following all AFLVM rules, policies and procedures.
- Strengthen umpire processes, systems and governance across the League.
- Coordinate umpire education, training and accreditation.
- Maintain accurate records of accreditation, service history and appointments.
- Attend Tribunal hearings as required.
Football Operations
- Allocate field umpires for all League matches, including finals.
- Allocate Goal Umpires for Finals Only
- Coordinate last-minute replacements and fill-ins where required.
- Manage OfficialsHQ for appointments and communication.
- Develop and deliver training programs, coaching support and educational resources.
- Drive recruitment initiatives to expand the umpire pool.
- Promote fairness, integrity and respect across the competition.
- Keep rules, resources and umpire information up to date on the League website.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with umpires, clubs, AFL Victoria, and internal committees.
- Provide regular communication through multiple platforms.
- Actively seek and respond to feedback from the umpiring group.
- Represent umpires at League meetings and report key outcomes back to the group.
- Support clubs in understanding and valuing the role of match officials.
- Prepare timely post-match reports and general correspondence for the Operations Manager.

Skills & Experience
Required
- AFL umpiring qualifications (Field or Goal)
- Experience in officiating or umpiring development
- Ability to manage stakeholders and lead diverse groups
- Administration and reporting capability
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Working With Children Check
- National Police Check
Highly Desirable
- Experience mentoring umpires or volunteers
- Knowledge of umpire pathways or previous involvement with AFL community competitions
- Experience using OfficialsHQ or similar officiating systems
- Understanding of the AFL Masters Vic Metro competition (or willingness to learn)
