The School Competitions Co-Ordinator administers Basketball Victoria’s suite of school competitions, providing the touch point for school contacts and assisting to connect new participants via school competitions to affiliated associations of Basketball Victoria (BV).
These BV school programs include Hoop Time, Champion School of Victoria Tournament, Victorian Secondary Schools Challenge and providing assistance in School Sport Victoria and 3XCup events. The position also provides support for the Leagues and Competitions department and broader BV team when required.

Basketball Victoria (BV) is the peak body for the sport of Basketball in Victoria. The broad objectives of BV are to provide for the advancement, encouragement, conduct, promotion and administration of Basketball in Victoria. We are a member driven governing body, providing a range of services, leagues and competitions for over 140 affiliated associations.?
In addition to supporting?our affiliated Basketball associations, BV delivers a number of participation programs making basketball Everybody’s Game, as well as player, coach and technical official development programs to encourage the development of socially desirable attitudes and values towards physical fitness, skill acquisition and performance pathways.?
Key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to;
Administration, Assistance and Support
- Maintain a current database of contact information and finance details for all Victorian schools.
- Maintain a current database of referees and coordinators and their adherence to BV Child Safety policies
- Coordinate venues, gameday coordinators, referees, participating schools, prizes and guest appearances to manage each competition day successfully.
- Provide ongoing training and support to appointed BV School Competition coordinators
- Develop a rapport with schools for ongoing participation in BV school competitions
- Competition management in preparation, during and following of competition days
- Reconcile all monies received for program participation fees, chasing up any outstanding fees.
Local Association
- Maintain strong relationships with local associations/stadium managers and coordinate referee appointments with local associations
- Administrate travel and accommodation arrangements for BV managed school competitions
- Contact new venues and schools who are yet to be involved with BV school competitions and try and increase awareness and involvement for the benefit and betterment of each association, school or school district.
Policy and Financial Development
- Monitor the annual BV budget for school’s programs with assistance from the GM – Leagues and Competitions and Chief Operations Officer
- Ensure that all endorsed and related BV policies are appropriate and current and that these are incorporated into the BV Policy Operational Manual.
Communication
- Ensure strong relationships are developed and maintained with BV office staff and affiliate association members, schools, referees and BV commercial partners.
- Ensure appropriate information and tournament fixtures are distributed in a timely manner, including email and website.
- Notify affiliated associations of all BV school’s programs being conducted in their immediate membership catchment to assist their recruitment and community branding and awareness.
- Develop, maintain and communicate an annual BV school competition calendar of events
Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in supervising staff and managing a team.
- Previous coaching experience at an elite level.
- A tertiary qualification in a sports field or a related discipline.
- Current WWCC
- Current Driver’s Licence
Desirable
- Experience in a sport, peak-body or not-for-profit setting.
- A level of understanding into the operations and commercial aspects of Basketball.
- Ability to prepare and monitor annual budgets for direct areas of responsibility.
- Appropriate qualifications in sport and/or business.
- Excellent organisation, administrative and computer skills
- Excellent and appropriate presentation and public speaking skills
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills, in line with that of fixturing of competitions
- Excellent experience and understanding of the PlayHQ software
- Ability to represent Basketball in a professional and respectable manner
- Demonstrated outstanding Basketball knowledge
- Ability to communicate with all members of the Basketball community
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small dynamic team.
