The GIANTS are on an exciting journey both on and off the field. With teams in the AFL, the AFL Women’s League and Super Netball competitions, the GIANTS truly are a club like no other.

On field, the AFL team has quickly grown into one of the competition’s most exciting teams with several players becoming household names across the country. Likewise, the on-field achievements of our AFL Women’s and GIANTS Netball teams are seeing the club connect with more fans and followers than ever before.

Off field, the club’s exciting, innovative, and fresh brand is growing as it engages with members, fans, the community and key stakeholders across Western Sydney, Canberra and Nationally.

The GIANTS AFL and AFL Women’s teams are based at the club’s elite training and administration facility in Sydney Olympic Park, with GIANTS Netball based adjacent at Netball Central.

Position Purpose

The Senior Social Media Manager is a dynamic and digitally proficient leader within the Media department. The role supports the Head of Media and Communications in delivering high-impact social media strategies across the AFL and AFLW programs, helping to grow the club’s digital presence and deepen the engagement with fans, members, and partners.

You will lead the planning, creation, and scheduling of social content, manage platform communities, and collaborate across departments to amplify key club moments. From match day coverage to behind-the-scenes storytelling, you will shape the voice of the GIANTS online.

Roles and Responsibilities

Content Creation and Platform Management

  • Shape the Club’s social media strategy.
  • Develop and execute social media content plans across the Club’s social media platforms consistent with the Club’s strategic priorities and tone of voice.
  • Create and schedule, engaging content tailored for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn and emerging platforms, ensuring content is tailored to different platforms and the target audience.
  • Cover live events and match days with real-time updates, visuals and fan interaction.
  • Stay up to date with social media and industry trends, platform changes and new technologies.
  • Manage, support and mentor the team’s Social Media Coordinator.

Community Engagement and Growth

  • Monitor and respond to fan engagement across platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to amplify campaigns, community initiatives and commercial activations.
  • Support public relation campaigns with complementary social content.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to grow and diversify the club’s digital audience.

Strategy, Reporting and Collaboration

  • Provide reporting and insights on social performance and audience growth.
  • Lead content planning and creative brainstorming sessions.

Skills and Knowledge

  • 3+ years’ experience in a social media or digital content role (sport or entertainment preferred). 
  • Ability to tailor content for diverse audiences and channels.
  • Familiarity with social media management tools and analytics platforms.
  • Strategic thinker with a creative approach to content and partner solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to build and manage relationships across internal teams and external networks.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and collaboratively to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated initiative, adaptability and resilience under pressure.
  • Willingness to work outside standard hours, including weekends, home match days and club events.
  • Professional, helpful, and efficient manner.
  • Exceptional time management and ability to balance competing priorities.
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Understanding of AFL is ideal but not essential.
  • Understanding of podcast production ideal but not essential.
