After a brief pause to rebuild and strengthen our club, the North Gold Coast Seahawks are returning to NBL1 with a clear vision and purpose: to build a sustainable, competitive program that nurtures our juniors and local talent. We’re not rushing to the import market. Instead, we’re growing from within and laying foundations for long-term success.
Role Purpose
Lead the Seahawks’ NBL1 Women’s or Men’s program with a development-first approach: uplift local athletes, integrate our juniors into senior basketball, and establish a high-performance culture that peaks in seasons two and three, not just year one.
Key Responsibilities
Player Pathway & Development
- Design and deliver an annual plan to guide athletes from junior/YL/QSL to NBL1.
- Implement individual development plans (IDPs) with measurable skill, physical, and IQ targets.
- Create structured opportunities for U18/U20/Youth League athletes to train and, when ready, play with the NBL1 squad.
Program Leadership & Culture
- Build a values-driven environment emphasising work ethic, humility, and accountability, prioritising learning and growth.
- Mentor assistants and development coaches; align drills, language, and standards across pathway teams.
- Promote athlete wellbeing, load management, and evidence-based return-to-play protocols
- Establish a clear, teachable style of play that develops decision-making, spacing, and skill versatility.
Alignment & Collaboration
- Work closely with GM, BDM, and junior/Youth League coaches to synchronise calendars, terminology, and KPIs.
- Support clinics, coach education, and community engagement to strengthen the pathway
Operations & Compliance
- Plan preseason, in-season, and postseason programs; manage video, scouting, and review processes.
- Comply with BQ/NBL1 regulations, Seahawks policies, and safeguarding/WWC (Blue Card) requirements.
What Success Looks Like (KPIs)

- Player Development – every athlete has clear IDPs and shows measurable progress across the season.
- Culture & Retention – strong attendance, high athlete engagement, and consistent year-to-year retention.
