ABOUT THE SMJFL 

The South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) has 26 Member Clubs, over 460 teams, 11,000 participants, and over 1000 umpires all playing in over 3,500 matches annually in Melbourne’s Southeast corridor.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This is a part-time (3 days a week) on-site role based at RSEA Park in Moorabbin for an Umpire Administration Officer, who will liaise with and coordinate with the Head of Umpiring, with the appointment of Field Umpires, as well as lead administrative enquiries from umpires and parents. 

The role reports to the Head of Umpiring and will also play a key role in delivering the field Umpire training program, mentoring and developing field umpires, as well as promoting the growth of umpires and umpiring. 

A successful candidate must be able to work on Monday and Wednesday, with the additional day of work to be flexible.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 

  • Coordinate the weekly strategic appointment of Field Umpires in conjunction with the Head of Umpiring and Football Operations Department aiming to achieve a 100% fill rate  
  • Coordinate the appointment of Field Umpires to Interleague/Metropolitan Junior Development Series as directed by the Head Coach and Head of Umpiring 
  • Lead administrative enquiries from Umpires and Parents including but not limited to registrations, pay, uniform, appointments and event queries, with assistance from the Head of Umpiring  
  • Assist with the process of building Umpire documents and collateral 
  • Support the Football Operations Department with admin tasks  
  • When required, provide support for the SMJFL Staff with events  
  • Lead Umpire Uniform distribution process 
  • Deal with any training night queries regarding Umpire requirements e.g., registrations, uniform orders etc.  
  • Publish news articles on Team App in conjunction with Head of Umpiring  
  • Attend meetings/seminars as required  
  • Any other duties as required by Head of Umpiring. 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE 

  • Good knowledge in AFL umpiring and the Laws of Australian Football 
  • Experience in AFL Umpire coaching is highly desired, however not required
  • Strong Customer Service Skills 
  • Strong Computer Skills  
  • Attention to detail 
  • Experience with OfficialsHQ (highly desired, not required) 
  • Willing to work extra hours when required, including weekends and league events 
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team as well as the ability to exercise independence and judgment when required 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build and manage professional relationships 
  • Must hold a current Employee WWCC (or be willing to obtain one)
