ORGANISATION
Brisbane Basketball Incorporated (BBI) is a not-for-profit organisation, focused on growing the sport of basketball in the South-East corner. With a strong club base, the Association runs regular fixtures, junior and senior competitions, representative teams, and development programs. The Brisbane Capitals is the representative function of BBI.
POSITION OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
To lead and integrate the Brisbane Capitals’ participation and performance programs, ensuring clear athlete and coach development pathways from grassroots to elite.
To provide operational oversight to athlete and coach development, team performance, performance support services, and competition structures while fostering strong relationships with member clubs, schools, deliverers, and Basketball Qld.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The list below is not definitive, and other duties may be assigned. It applies to both Junior and Senior Capitals Programs unless state otherwise.
- In collaboration with the GDAC and with the approval of the General Manager, develop and implement the Capital’s performance strategy and the Capital’s performance plan to deliver the strategic plan.
- Facilitate strong, deliberate and productive relationships with athletes (parents), coaches, and performance support services to support and enable them to develop appropriately robust and effective team plans aligned with the Capitals Team Performance and What it Takes to Progress/Win (WITTP/W) framework to increase the likelihood of athlete and coach progression, and team performance.
- Provide leadership and management to all teams, including facilitating team meetings, determining use of resources to support goals and objectives, and promoting effective vertical and horizontal inter-team collaboration.
- Lead operational planning and reviews, coordinating camps and competitions, conducting annual performance program reviews and evaluation system, and staying current with athlete and coach development and performance trends at all levels.
- Determine the Brisbane Capitals Performance Program structure and oversee the Coaching Strategy with a focus on the acquisition and retention of coaches, team staff, and performance support service personnel required to conduct the Capitals Performance Program.
- Lead coach development, contributing to coach reflection and review processes, coach development plans, and professional growth within the performance support network.
- Ensuring the strategic direction of the performance program is well communicated and understood by the Member Clubs and throughout the broader BBI Community.
- Produce monthly reports on the status of the Capitals Performance Program and other reports at the request of the General Manager.
Child Safety Compliance
To ensure that the Capitals program conforms to the highest standards of professional conduct regarding compliance with state (BQ) and national (BA) policies (i.e. BA Safeguarding SIA integrity) and procedures, as well as all state and federal legislation concerning the safeguarding of children.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Essential
- Degree in Sport Management, Sport Coaching or other related field.
- Hold a performance coach accreditation, or equivalent, or capable of achieving the highest level of accreditation available or equivalent.
- Demonstrate advanced written and oral communication skills, including being client-focused and communicating and negotiating with various people at all levels.
- Proven time management skills.
- Proven experience managing direct reports
- Proven skills and knowledge in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet and e-mail use.
- Right to work in Australia
Desirable
- Qualification/s in:
- Coach Education
- Dispute management
- Experience using competition management software.
- Hold a current driver’s license and have your own motor vehicle or access to reliable transport.
- First Aid and CPR accreditation.
- A sound understanding of the structure of basketball in Queensland.
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
All KPIs are directly related to delivering the performance elements of strategic and operational plans. These are set annually by the General Manager and ratified by the Management Committee. These KPI’s primarily focus on performance, retention, engagement, and customer service.

REPRESENTATIVE COACH APPOINTMENTS
The position is eligible to apply for representative coaching appointments. Any appointment to a representative team is voluntary and does not form any part of this PD or replace any contracted hours.
