The Role
The College is seeking the services of a suitably qualified Basketball coaches to join the Sports Department.
Clayfield College is seeking Basketball Coaches to contribute to the School’s growing Sport Program across the following competitions:
- QGSSSA (Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association): Years 7-12 girls (commencing Term 1, 2026)
- Andrews Cup: Years 4-6 girls
- Britton Shield: Years 2-6 boys
The coach’s role is to deliver training sessions and match-day coaching that provide a safe environment for athletes while developing skills, tactical awareness, teamwork, and enjoyment of the sport.
Due to the size and diversity of the program, we welcome applications from coaches with varying levels of experience and qualifications.
Professional Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver two high-quality training sessions per week for allocated teams.
- Provide coaching at QGSSSA fixtures and other scheduled competitions.
- Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and player development across all levels.
- Support the College’s Sport Program values and uphold the spirit of competition.
Training & Competition
- Training:
- QGSSSA basketball teams will train twice weekly (days and times to be confirmed), commencing Term 1, 2026. Primary teams (Andrews Cup and Britton Shield) will also train weekly during their competition season.
- Competition:
- The QGSSSA 2026 Basketball season commences on Friday March 13, 2026, with the season ending on Friday May 29, 2026.
- QGSSSA fixtures are played in Term 1 (Friday afternoons/evenings).
- Andrews Cup and Britton Shield competitions run during the school year (dates and venues confirmed in advance).
Desired Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated experience coaching basketball for girls and/or boys from beginner to intermediate/elite levels.
- Ability to plan engaging sessions that build technical skills and game sense.
- Coaching and/or refereeing accreditation is desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with young athletes, staff, and parents.
- Professional presentation and manner.
Mandatory Requirements
- Ability to acquire and maintain a current Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
- Supportive of the Christian aims and mission of the Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills required.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Relevant basketball coaching accreditation and/or officiating qualifications.
- Previous experience coaching in school or club competitions.
