About the Role

Our Venue Operations Team is critical to the success of all daily activities and major events across our precincts. We are seeking a highly organised, proactive, and approachable Venue Operations Team Leader to join our team.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role provides leadership to a workforce of Venue Operations staff, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations and the delivery of major sporting and community events at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) and Lakeside Stadium (LS).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, coaching, and performance managing a large team of Operations Supervisors and Officers.
  • Developing and managing staff rosters (three weeks in advance), including shift swaps and workforce availability.
  • Reviewing event orders, planning infrastructure requirements, and ensuring operational readiness.
  • Overseeing event delivery, from setup through to debrief and continuous improvement reporting.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders, external sporting partners and event organisers.
  • Supporting budget management, procurement, recruitment, and workforce development.
  • Working closely with the Risk and Compliance team to ensure safety, emergency, and risk management procedures are followed.
  • Ensuring operations run smoothly while proactively identifying and resolving challenges.

About You

We are looking for a confident and reliable leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. With strong emotional intelligence, forward planning, and interpersonal skills, you will motivate and influence your team while ensuring the highest standards of service delivery.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in operations, logistics, or venue/events management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage large, diverse workforces.
  • Experience in workforce rostering and scheduling.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple competing tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to foresee and resolve challenges quickly.
  • High levels of emotional intelligence, adaptability, and integrity.
  • Current Provide First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Working with Children Check (Employer) (or willingness to obtain).
  • Provide Advanced Resuscitation (to be obtained within probation period).

Desirable:

  • Experience working in stadium, aquatic, or large-scale sporting environments.
  • Familiarity with facility booking systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Sport and Recreation Management or a related field.
  • Experience in OH&S, risk management, and policy/procedure development.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time role (38 hours per week). The roster is generally Monday to Friday.

At busy times of the year, flexibility is required to meet business needs, including some evenings and weekend work for major events. Time off in lieu will be managed as part of the roster.
