ABOUT ATHLETICS VICTORIA
Athletics Victoria (AV) is the governing body for athletics in Victoria.
Boasting more than 10,000 registered athletes, officials and coaches, AV conducts competitions and events for athletes over 12 years and of all abilities.
AV is a Member Association of Australian Athletics, and works closely with Little Athletics Victoria, the Victorian Masters Association, the Victorian Athletic League and Victorian secondary schools.
An administration team of 13 support the Athletics Victoria Committee in achieving AV’s strategic objectives.
As a newly developed role and an addition to the current Delivery team of three, this is an exciting opportunity to further expand AV’s competition footprint and ensure more Victorians have access to first-class athletics events.
SPORT DELIVERY LEADER
Reporting to the Sport Delivery Manager, the Sport Delivery Leader will provide leadership across all facets of the Sport Delivery portfolio in supporting the broader Delivery team.
Specifically, the Sport Delivery Leader will be charged with the responsibility of planning and executing athletics events, including:
- Winter season cross country, road races and relays (XCR).
- Summer season Track & Field, including AV Shield League (AVSL), AV Schools events, Championship events and other Specialist and Club meets.
To be successful in this role, you will be tertiary qualified and/or have demonstrated success in a sport delivery role, ideally at a state sport level. You will have the ability to manage competing priorities and be adept at planning and delivering projects that are on time, on budget and meet strategic targets.
A proven background in engaging and influencing people is essential, with the communication and negotiation skills required to build relationships and elicit cooperation from a diverse range of key stakeholders (internal & external). Experience in working with sporting clubs and volunteers will be highly regarded.
This is a unique opportunity to work directly with athletics clubs and participants at the grassroots level and provide vital support in growing participation across the state. A background in athletics is not essential; however, an understanding of community sporting club environments would be advantageous.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Sport Delivery Leader will undertake the following broad duties, as well as any other relevant duties as directed by the Sport Delivery Manager:
Competition / Event Planning and Management
- Work as part of the Delivery team to develop and manage Athletics Victoria’s annual calendar of competitions and events, including oversight/management at the events themselves.
- Develop and implement strategies that ensure Athletics Victoria’s competitions and events provide an enjoyable experience for participants.
- Support the implementation of initiatives aimed at increasing the number of participants in Athletics Victoria’s competitions and events.
Member / Customer Service Support
- Provide customer service via incoming calls and email enquiries, as well as with regards to AV’s membership system (Revolutionise Sport).
- Identify and seek to fulfil customer needs, including membership sales inquiries.
- Manage complaints and feedback, providing solutions where appropriate.
Broader Club Development / Support
- Support capacity-building initiatives for affiliated clubs to conduct their own competitions and events, in turn positively impacting a club’s capacity to grow and meet the needs of its community.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Sport Delivery Manager.
Internal: Operate as an effective member of the AV team, including providing assistance to other team members and their projects to meet the varied priorities of the organisation.
External: Work with member clubs, individual members, participants, other relevant peak bodies, local organisations, relevant State and Commonwealth departments, contractors, volunteers, venues and other.
LOCATION & TRAVEL
The position will be based at Athletics Victoria head office at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park. Some travel will be required to attend events, with your own reliable vehicle required to meet these travel requirements. Work-related travel expenses will be reimbursed under the relevant Athletics Victoria policy.
HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Due to the nature of the position, after hours and weekend work will be commonplace, with the successful applicant required to attend AV competitions and events throughout the year. In return, Athletics Victoria offers a Time off in Lieu policy.
