Position Purpose

The Competition Assistant & Duty Supervisor plays a key role in supporting both the day-to-day administration of the Waverley Netball Centre and the smooth delivery of evening netball competitions. The role provides high-quality customer service, assists with administration and competition management, supervises evening matches, and acts as the main point of contact while on duty.


Key Responsibilities

Daytime Administration Duties

  • Provide reception and customer service support during office hours.
  • Respond to phone calls, emails, and general enquiries.
  • Assist with competition administration, including registrations, draws, results, and communication with clubs and teams.
  • Support bookings, programs, and events as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist with reporting.
  • Provide general office support to the Competitions Coordinator and Centre Manager.

Evening Competition Supervision Duties

  • Act as the main point of contact during evening competitions.
  • Supervise matches to ensure a safe, fair, and inclusive environment.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to umpires and competition staff.
  • Ensure games run on time and competition policies are upheld.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to issues, complaints, or incidents.
  • Oversee the set-up and pack-down of courts and equipment.
  • Ensure first aid and emergency procedures are followed if required.

Key Relationships

  • Reports to: Competitions Coordinator / Centre Manager
  • Works with: Competition Assistants, Umpires, Coaches, Players, and Volunteers
  • External: Clubs, Parents, Spectators, Community Groups

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in administration, customer service, or community sport.
  • Confidence supervising competitions or group environments.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office and competition management systems).

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of netball or community sports operations.
  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Working With Children Check (required in Victoria).

Conditions of Employment

  • Part-time or full-time position, with a combination of daytime office hours and evening competition supervision shifts.
  • Employment will be covered under the Amusements, Events and Recreation Award 2020, Level 3 or Level 4 depending on experience.
  • Uniform provided.
  • Training and induction supplied.
