Emanuel School is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and passionate basketball leader to oversee our thriving K-12 basketball program. This is an exciting opportunity to lead one of the school's most popular sports to create meaningful experiences, maintain high participation and enhance skill development for the students.
This is a full time, permanent position. The School's core working hours are 8am - 4pm, Monday to Friday. Hours for this position will be determined in conjunction with the Director of Sport and will taken into account morning and afternoon training sessions (all year round) and Sunday committments (during Terms 1 and 4 only). This role will work during school holidays and receive 4 weeks annual leave per year.
About This Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Sport, the Head of Basketball is responsible for the following:
- Schedule, plan and oversee all competition practices, and matches.
- Provide effective leadership to student-athletes to encourage both successful academic development and competitive performance.
- Deliver specific objectives as agreed with the Director of Sport to achieve the values, goals and strategies of the School.
- Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies and philosophies relevant to their sporting discipline.
- Continue to build/ promote and explore both Competitive and participation avenues of the basketball program.
- Investigate opportunities to act as coach/selector/manager of Association Representative Teams: (HS CDSSA, AICES & CIS) and (PS ASISSA & CIS).
- Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations.
- Use professional judgment to solve problems or escalate issues when there are no clear methods or procedures in place for doing so.
- Ensure compliance with the School’s Code of Conduct and all other internal policies and procedures.
- Proven ability to take on constructive student and parent feedback and manage accordingly.
- Encourage all Emanuel students to engage in sport (basketball) as part of a healthy lifestyle.
In addition to the Basketball program, they will:
- Plan in conjunction with the Director of Sport the Gold Coast ASC Basketball Tour.
- Coordinate and teach Year 3 Sport Lessons.
- Oversee the training of representative teams in the School Fitness Gym Centre.
- Run 3 holiday camps per year.
We run compulsory sport for Years 7-9 and are active participants in All Suburbs Independent School Sports Association (ASISSA), NSW Combined Independent Schools (NSWCIS), Combined Districts Secondary Sports Association (CDSSA) and Association of Independent Co-educational Schools (AICES), as well as local competitions.
The successful candidate will have relevant experience in coaching. An understanding of sports management / administration within a school will be considered highly favourably.
The successful candidate must also hold a valid WWCC, first aid qualification and drivers licence. You must also own or have access to your own vehicle.
