GPS Rugby Union Club, established in 1887 and proudly based at Ashgrove since 1977, is one of Australia’s most respected rugby clubs. With over 135 years of proud history, GPS has produced numerous Wallabies, Queensland Reds players, and Premier Rugby champions. We are built on loyalty, tradition, and a distinctive style of tough, skilful rugby that inspires players and supporters alike.

We are seeking an outstanding 1st Grade Head Coach to lead our flagship program and shape the future of one of Australia’s most iconic rugby clubs.

Reporting to the Director of Rugby and the Club Board, the 1st Grade Head Coach will be responsible for leading the club’s premier men’s team, delivering a game model and coaching strategy that drives sustainable success, and ensuring GPS remains a benchmark in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the week-to-week performance of the 1st Grade team and ensure alignment of game plans with 2nd Grade and Colts programs.
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, and development of players and coaches in collaboration with the Director of Rugby.
  • Develop and implement a GPS-specific game model and coaching strategy that reflects our values and brand of rugby.
  • Work closely with strength & conditioning, medical, and analysis staff to deliver high performance outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships with players, coaches, club leadership, referees, sponsors, and supporters.
  • Foster a professional, disciplined, and values-driven club culture.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven head coach or senior assistant experience at Premier/Representative/U20 (QPR, Shute Shield, NPC, Super Academy or equivalent).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to unite and inspire players and coaches.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering high performance programs and game strategies.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • Commitment to GPS’s traditions, values, and community culture.
  • World Rugby Level 3 Coaching Accreditation (or working towards).
