We’re looking for an organised and motivated Tournaments & Events Manager to lead the planning and delivery of Tennis New Zealand’s national tournaments, competitions, and events - including Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup, ITF World Tennis Tour events, and key national championships. You’ll work closely with regions, associations, affiliates, and the International Tennis Federation to ensure high-quality events that inspire players and engage communities.
Tennis New Zealand is the national body for tennis in New Zealand and is responsible for the administration, management and growth of tennis in New Zealand. Delivery of dynamic, engaging events is a cornerstone of this work.
Main Responsibilities:
National Events
Coordinate each tournament’s key elements to ensure a successful and competitive event, including:
Produce necessary communications, including Fact Sheets, Acceptance Lists, website updates and results details.
Work with host venues on event delivery contracts, logistics and operations
Work with tournament delivery staff to ensure the best delivery models
Liaise with officials, coaches, players and tournament staff
Develop and manage annual event budgets
Work to maximise the event experience for players and other stakeholders and broaden the scope of each event
Davis and Billie Jean King Cup
Coordinate the delivery of home ties including venue set-up, logistics and tie operations
Work with the key staff on venue selection and event delivery strategy, to maximise the event value to Tennis NZ and external stakeholders.
Liaise with appropriate persons at the ITF on event delivery
Develop and manage event budgets
ITF World Tennis Tour
Coordinate the delivery of home World Tennis Tour Professional events - including venue set-up, logistics and operations.
Coordinate event venue selection and calendar for ITF World Tennis Tour junior events.
Work with the High Performance Director, Commercial Manager and other key staff on date and venue selection and event delivery strategy, to maximise the event value to Tennis NZ and external stakeholders.
Develop and manage event budgets
Liaise with appropriate persons at the ITF and/or appointed Officials on event delivery
Enable
Work with Tennis Regions, Associations and venues to ensure the best quality events are delivered.
Grow the networks of local tournament deliverers and officials (volunteer and professional).
Administer
Maintain and implement Tennis NZ’s Tournament Sanction process , outlining best practice for each event.
Work with Tennis Regions, Associations and clubs to coordinate a National calendar for all tournaments
Partnerships
Provide support and direction to Associations and Regions on all tournament matters, including related training and support
Service and strengthen key relationships within the wider Tennis NZ team
Build strong partnerships with, and provide assistance to Tennis NZ Affiliates, Regions and Associations
Officials
Support ongoing development of an Officials Development Pathway to support and grow the officials network from volunteer helpers to ITF qualified officials.
What we’re looking for
Required:
Proven experience in event management (minimum 3 years in sports events or similar).
Strong organisational and planning skills.
Skilled communicator and relationship-builder.
Experience managing budgets and delivering projects on time.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, with strong written and presentation skills.
Ability to travel within NZ and work flexible hours when required.
Full NZ driver’s licence and legal right to work in NZ.
Preferred:
Knowledge of tennis structures in NZ and internationally.
Experience with tournament software.
Relevant tertiary qualification in sport, business, or event management.
Personal attributes:
Passion for sport.
Attention to detail with a positive, solutions-focused approach.
Comfortable working in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
Flexibility to work outside of normal office hours.
