Description

The Hunter Wildfires Rugby Club is one of regional NSW’s premier rugby programs, proudly representing Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, and regional NSW in the Shute Shield and Chikarovski Cup competitions. Our Women’s program has gone from strength to strength, with both teams reaching the 2024 grand finals and our Division 2 side crowned premiers.

The Wildfires are committed to creating a high-performance pathway for female athletes while celebrating the strong rugby culture of our region. We are now seeking an outstanding Women’s Head Coach to lead our program into the future.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Rugby and Club Board, the Women’s Head Coach will be responsible for delivering a professional, competitive, and values-driven rugby program. The successful candidate will lead the Women’s Div 1 and Div 2 teams, oversee coaching structures across the program, and work closely with players, support staff, and the wider rugby community to achieve sustainable success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the performance and preparation of the Women’s Div 1 and Div 2 teams.
  • Oversee the recruitment, retention, and development of players and coaches within the women’s program.
  • Drive the development and implementation of the Wildfires game model and coaching philosophy.
  • Work with strength & conditioning and medical to deliver high-performance outcomes.
  • Build strong and positive relationships with players, coaches, club leadership, rugby bodies, sponsors, and supporters.
  • Foster a professional, disciplined, and inclusive club culture that reflects the values of the Hunter Wildfires.

  • Experience in elite rugby coaching.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and unite players and coaches.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering high-performance rugby programs and strategies.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • A commitment to the Wildfires’ mission of building pathways for women in rugby across regional NSW.
