Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Spiders is a Basketball Association based in Sydney's Upper North Shore. Catering to over 6,500 members, the Association offers a variety of basketball programs to players of all ages and abilities. As a not-for-profit, aligned with Basketball NSW, our priority lies in providing the best possible experience to our members.

Our Organisational Structure

We are a small but committed team. With a newly appointed General Manager, the Association is currently undergoing a restructure of its programs, communication and staffing.

This new dedicated ‘Competitions Manager’ role, is a full-time opportunity with the association, managing a crucial aspect of our operations.

Role Overview

The Competitions Manager is responsible for the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of all domestic basketball competitions. This includes overseeing scheduling, compliance, stakeholder communication, and digital systems to ensure competitions run smoothly, safely, and in alignment with our association goals.

Key Responsibilities

Competition Planning & Delivery

  • Design and implement seasonal competition structures.
  • Manage fixtures, venues, and game-day operations.
  • Coordinate finals formats, grading processes, and standardisation of competition by-laws.
  • Management of all our Association court bookings across multiple venues.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with teams, clubs, and more to ensure clear communication year-round.
  • Provide timely updates on draws, results, and changes to our member base.
  • Support tribunal processes and disciplinary matters where required.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Uphold player safety, member protection, and Fair Work compliance across competition operations.
  • Monitor player eligibility, team registrations, and working with children checks.
  • Ensure venue safety and emergency protocols are followed.

Digital & Operational Efficiency

  • Maintain and optimize competition management systems (currently using Basketball Connect).
  • Generate reports and insights on participation, team performance, and operational KPIs.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience in sports competition management or event coordination.
  • Understanding of basketball rules, structures, and governance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in digital tools to maximise productivity.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • A can-do attitude with a genuine passion for delivering community events.
  • Valid employee WWCC.

Desirable

  • Experience in not-for-profit or community sport environments.
  • Knowledge of Fair Work obligations and player safety standards.
  • A Sport Management or other similar degree.
  • Driver’s licence.
  • First Aid Certificate.
