THE ORGANISATION AND THE JOB
FIBA in Oceania is one of five regional offices established by FIBA (International Basketball Federation) for the worldwide development and organisation of basketball. FIBA in Oceania is also the first point of call for the 22 National Basketball Federations within the Oceania region.
This job is an entry level role to the sports industry aimed towards recent outstanding graduates or final year students of Sports Management, Development, International Relations, Business, and/or others with talent and experience in sports administration.
We will provide the right candidate with a real hands-on sports administration experience.
As part of our small team based in Southport and Fiji, working with us will build you a core set of skills and experiences in sports and organisational administration that will serve your future career with us or other sports organisations well.
SPECIFIC TASKS
- Working primarily with the National Federation and Sports department, you will provide administrative support towards all activities as related to the Oceania Operational Plan.
- Arrange logistics and detailed running sheets and support the delivery of development and Basketball For Good projects in conjunction with other staff or stakeholders.
- Coordinate and report on the Women in Basketball project, funded by the Australian Government’s PacificAUSSport program.
- Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of other key projects.
- Ensure effective management of electronic files, database and other digital content.
- Assist the Communications Manager in the management of FIBA digital content creation, websites and other media.
- Assist with marketing and communications research, content creation, and reporting.
- Other tasks as required.
JOB DIMENSIONS
This role reports to the Senior Manager NF & Sport, but will be directed by other staff on a regular basis for specific tasks. You will need to build and maintain good relationships through your ability to deliver on time and with quality to our Member Federations.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualifications
Ideally you will have tertiary qualifications in Sports Management/ Sport Development or a similar field; or have one to two years sports administration experience.
The right candidate for this role will be able to demonstrate:
Skills and knowledge
- An understanding of the principles of sport development (coaches, players and officials) and sport for development, and how to apply them in a practical setting.
- Project Management experience suitable to sports development activities; or an understanding of Project Management theory and how you would practically apply it in this setting.
- Demonstratable experience in reporting and acquittal processes, and an understanding of government or NGO processes would be preferred. Experience in data collection and analysis would be preferred.
- Familiarity with projects that seek to address gender equality, female engagement, women in sport/leadership and inclusion is desired.
- Computer literacy is essential – you must be confident in use of MS Office (word, excel) and programs such as Canva and/or the Adobe Suite.
- Knowledge of the Oceania region and experience working with, or in, the Pacific is desired.
- Basketball experience at any level.

LOCATION
The position will be located at the FlBA Oceania Office in Southport, Queensland. International travel will be involved in this role so the candidate must be able and willing to travel as required. Candidates must have the right to work in Australia.
TERM/HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, 12-month contract role until September 2026. There is a strong possibility of on-going work beyond this period.
SALARY
Salary is set at a wage suitable for a graduate entry level role into the Sports industry.
