Join One of Sydney’s Most Vibrant Basketball Communities!

Are you passionate about coaching excellence, player development, and building strong basketball pathways? Do you want to be part of a thriving community where your leadership can shape the future of the sport?

The Sutherland District Basketball Association (SDBA) is one of the largest and most respected basketball associations in NSW. Proudly rooted in the beautiful Sutherland Shire, we are home to a passionate and growing community of players, coaches, volunteers, and families. With a strong domestic competition, a proud representative program, and a commitment to development at all levels, SDBA is more than just a sporting organisation - we’re a basketball family.

We’re currently seeking an inspiring and driven Director of Coaching & Player Development to lead our representative, academy, grassroots and coaching programs.

This is a unique opportunity for a dedicated basketball professional to make a lasting impact - shaping the next generation of athletes and coaches and helping SDBA thrive on and off the court.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Representative & High-Performance Programs

  • Recruit, mentor and grow a strong cohort of representative and high-performance coaches.
  • Drive the success of our representative, academy, and high-performance programs.
  • Work closely with Basketball NSW and Basketball Australia to support coach and player progression through state and national pathways.
  • Implement and champion a consistent coaching curriculum across all programs.
  • Deliver engaging holiday programs, camps, clinics, and coach education opportunities.

Development Programs

  • Oversee the growth and success of our grassroots programs, including Aussie Hoops and domestic coaching development.
  • Lead the design, delivery and evaluation of our school and participation programs, including our exciting “Sharks in the Shire” initiative.
  • Foster a team of capable and enthusiastic development coaches through structured training and mentoring.

Administration & Leadership

  • Ensure sessions are staffed, planned and delivered within budget and reporting requirements.
  • Act as liaison for key competitions such as Junior Waratah, Senior Waratah and NBL1.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to promote programs and connect with our community.
  • Maintain and evolve our policies, Association handbooks, and operational practices to ensure excellence and alignment with best practice.

Who We’re Looking For:

You’re a strategic and hands-on basketball leader who thrives on developing talent, building programs, and engaging with the community. You bring:

  • A strong coaching and/or sports management background
  • Experience in high performance and grassroots environments
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to lead teams and drive outcomes
  • Passion for growing the game and creating positive player and coach experiences
  • A proactive, organised, and people-focused approach

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Sports Management, Coaching, or equivalent
  • Performance Level (or higher) Basketball Coaching Accreditation
  • Demonstrated experience in high performance or representative programs
  • NSW Working with Children Check and First Aid certification
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working in a member-based organisation
  • Experience working within a state pathways program
  • Coach Education Presenter’s Certificate

Personal Attributes:

  • Self-starter with a proactive approach
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal
  • Committed to providing exceptional customer service and community engagement

Why Join SDBA?

At SDBA, you’ll be part of a supportive and ambitious team committed to making basketball more accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for all. From elite athletes to beginners, our programs help players and coaches reach their potential in a fun, values-driven environment.
