Description

Are you passionate about Para-sport looking to support National Sporting Organisations and athletes in success? As a shared service role between Paralympics Australia and Australian Athletics (AA) based out of either Melbourne or Canberra, the successful Classification Coordinator-Athletics will be pivotal in managing the development, implementation maintenance of the Para-Athletics classification program.

About the Role

The Classification Coordinator - Para-Athletics manages the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Para-athletics classification program. The role ensures standardised, fair, and compliant classification processes aligned with National Classification Program, International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Classification Code, World Para Athletics and athletics specific strategies.

Embedded within AA’s Para-Athletics Program, the Coordinator collaborates with various departments to integrate classification into pathways, participation, events, coach development, and athlete wellbeing. Acting as the primary contact between AA and the Australian National Classification Program, they foster collaboration, system efficiencies, and enhance athlete progression outcomes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support of the AA Paralympic Pathways Lead to development, implementation and monitoring Para-athletics classification strategies, plans, policies, procedures and budgets.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant classification Rules and Regulations and the IPC Classification Code.
  • Coordination, delivery and enhancement of Para-athletics classification opportunities, including complaints, protests and appeals.
  • Act as first point of response to general Para-athletics classification enquiries including internal and external education initiatives.
  • Recruitment, training, accreditation, and ongoing development of sport-specific physical impairment classifiers in alignment required frameworks.
  • Support the AA Paralympic Pathways Lead to prepare athletes and team personnel for International Classification.
  • Maintenance of accurate sport-specific classification resources, documentation, and classification data.
  • Development and maintenance of relationships and act as a subject matter expert to support Members, stakeholders and internal contacts.
  • Active contribution to Australian National Classification Program initiatives, including collaboration across PA, other NSOs, and the NIN.
  • Active engagement in relevant international Classification initiatives, networks, research and rule reviews to ensure best practice approaches.
  • Contribution to the development and implementation of initiatives focused on improving access to the sport of Para-Athletics for prospective athletes.

About You

We’re seeking someone with:

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills and a collaborative attribute.
  • Strong administrative and communication skills with a strong sense of composure and focus.
  • History supporting the delivery of events and/or volunteer management.
  • Experience in the creation of resources, materials and educative content.
  • Experience working with informational data sets and sensitive and confidential information.
  • The ability to work with and foster agreement amongst multiple stakeholder groups.
