The Western Force is a professional rugby union team based in Western Australia competing in the elite Super Rugby Pacific and Super W competitions.

As an organisation, the Force has a proud history, having been formed in 2004 and making its Super Rugby debut in 2006 at its original home, Subiaco Oval. Backed by Tattarang, the club operates at the highest level of sporting professionalism in Western Australia and has a strong presence nationally and internationally.

We are currently in search of a qualified Physiotherapist to join our club and lead the SRW program. This is a unique opportunity to represent a professional sporting organisation.

Role Brief:

  • Part time (0.8FTE) maternity leave cover contract (12 months)
  • Manage medical status of players in Super Rugby Women’s (SRW) program
  • Provide world-class, evidence-based rehabilitation to SRW players who sustain any injury
  • Return players to play within expected timeframes, with maintained or improved performance and negligible reinjury rates
  • Develop high-performing players who are ready for the demands of SRW

Key deliverables:

  • Super Rugby Women’s players:
    • Provide acute care, referral, and rehabilitation to all SRW players
    • Develop and progress injury prevention programs in conjunction with the S+C and rugby staff
    • Ensure holistic care of all players
    • Supervise and manage injured players at all SRW program trainings and games
  • Super Rugby Women’s staff
    • Manage player availability and communicate early to head coached and HP manager
    • Communicate medical week plans for all players with modified or unavailable status
    • Involved in training planning and load prescription
    • Input injury prevention programs/strategies
    • Involved in holistic long-term athlete development
    • Connect and liase with team doctor around injuries and illness’

Essential Requirements

  • Sports Medicine / Physio / Allied Health Degree
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy (or equivalent)
  • Current registration with AHPRA and up to date insurance
  • Demonstrable specialist skills in injury diagnosis and rehabilitation
  • Minimum of 2 years experience within an elite / professional sports setting
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally
  • Ability to commit to irregular working hours, including weekends
  • Excellent IT, organisation and communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously to achieve performance targets within agreed timeframes
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary high-performance environment
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain appropriate medical confidentiality

Desirable Criteria

  • Post graduate qualification in Sports Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • Sports specific emergency pitch side training (Immediate Care in Rugby Level 3)
  • Physiotherapy experience in a professional rugby team environment
  • Experience working in a contact sport
  • Full drivers licence
