About the role
We are seeking an experienced Head of Rowing to join our team at St Michael’s Collegiate School in Hobart, Tasmania. Based at the Derwent Mercantile Rowing Club and reporting to the Deputy Principal, this is a part-time position of 0.8 FTE, responsible for coaching and coordinating the school's rowing program, as well as overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the rowing fleet.

What you'll be doing

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations and procedures
  • Coaching and managing a team of coaches for student rowers to develop their skills and abilities at the school and in state/national competitions
  • Maintaining the school's rowing fleet, including boats, oars, and other equipment
  • Overseeing the overall rowing program, including scheduling, regatta participation, and managing a team of coaches in conjunction with the Rowing Coordinator (Communications & Administration)
  • Purchasing new equipment and managing the rowing program's budget
  • Promoting the school's rowing program and recruiting new student rowers

What we're looking for

  • Significant coaching experience in competitive rowing in a school or club level
  • Strong technical knowledge of boat maintenance and repair, including the ability to perform routine servicing and repairs
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team of coaches and student rowers
  • Passion for developing young athletes and helping them reach their full potential
  • Relevant coaching qualifications and certifications (minimum Level 1 NCAS Rowing Accreditation),
  • First Aid & CPR Certification (mandatory)
  • Motorboat & Driver’s License (mandatory) (bus license desirable)
