The Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) is the governing body of rugby union in Queensland and is responsible for leading the growth, sustainability and success of rugby union in the state via a robust strategic plan.
The Queensland Reds Team Physiotherapist will support the Head Physiotherapist by providing physiotherapy services to the Queensland Reds men's professional squad and Academy including but not limited to the assessment, treatment, injury prevention and rehabilitation of injuries.
Key Accountabilities
Service Delivery
Deliver a specialist rehabilitation service to all injured (rehab) players within the Queensland Reds squad including developing long-term plans and communicating progress to the Head Physiotherapist and Head of Athletic Performance
Deliver specialist physiotherapy treatment and support to all players within the Queensland Reds squad including those not currently in the rehab group
Contribute to the coordination, planning and delivery of robustness programmes for players
Coordinate physiotherapy related activities for non-23 players including but not limited to scheduling, massage, strapping, injury assessment and treatment
Assist with the management of all consumables and relevant equipment maintenance
Work with medical and performance teams (doctors, physiotherapists, athletic performance, nutrition and other service providers) with the delivery of specialist rehabilitation
Communication
Liaise and meet regularly with the medical and athletic performance teams for optimal medical management
Liaise with the Head Physiotherapist and national team physiotherapists and doctors regarding the progress and ongoing treatment of players of national interest
Communicate regularly with the medical and performance teams regarding any specialist physiotherapy issues related to player welfare or performance
Reporting & Documentation
Maintain up to date notes on the online player medical management system (Smartabase)
Report to the Queensland Reds medical team on all matters relating to player injuries and progress
Complete written reports as required by the Queensland Reds Head Physiotherapist and occasionally the national lead physiotherapist for players of national interest
Multidisciplinary Teamwork & Working Relationships
Build and maintain relations with all Queensland Reds and Rugby Australia high-performance staff (particularly in the areas of medicine, physiotherapy and athletic performance) to ensure relationships of trust, respect, support and continuous and open communication exist
Education & CPD
Be trained and up to date in acute pitch side care including spinal injury and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, in your capacity as a physiotherapist
Keep up to date on recent research in sports physiotherapy and rugby related physiotherapy issues
