Purpose of the role

The primary purpose of this role is to engage positively as a coach in the delivery of the Athletic Performance Development Program. Further, the role will assist the Head of Athletic Performance Development in the delivery of strength programs within the BGS Weights Room (as required), as well as supporting the delivery of GPS sporting programs, including the BGS swim club.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Athletic Performance Development Coaching

  • Attend all Senior Athletic Performance Development Sessions
  • Provide coaching assistance and support to the BGS Athletic Performance Development Team in delivering programs and facilitating training sessions (at the request of Head of Athletic Performance Development).
  • Lead, and model, the enthusiasm and culture expected for physical preparation at BGS, across all sports.
  • Regularly liaise with Line Managers and Heads of Program to ensure program objective of developing a multi-sport athlete is being successfully attained.
  • Assist in the rehabilitation of student-athletes based on physiotherapist triage reports.

Leadership, Professional Administration and Community Engagement.

  • Assist in the development and communication of Term 1-4 Weights Room schedules, in collaboration with Head of Athletic Performance Development.
  • Assist in the promotion of the Weights Room, and subsequent strength training engagement, among the student population. This may include but not limited to strongman competitions, obstacle courses, and other health related initiatives.
  • Participate and lead presentations such as parent information evenings, Athletic Performance Development team meetings, head coach/ director presentations, and potential external professional networking opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Head of Performance Development to deliver positive outcomes to all key stakeholders.

Strength and Conditioning Delivery

  • Assist Head of Athletic Performance Development in coaching and delivering strength training across all levels of the BGS model  as required (FAD, AD, AP).
  • Assist in the development, and staffing, of holiday Weights Room training schedules, in liaison with the Head of Athletic Performance Development.
  • Initiate and implement benchmark testing for flagship GPS sports. Present data in conjunction with Sport Performance Analyst.
  • Coordinate and program for flagship programs to ensure specific demands of sport are managed through strength and conditioning.
  • Ensure all programs and compliance is upheld in alignment with the BGS Physical Literacy Model (LTAD) and Gym Rules.
  • Assist within other Athletic Performance Development programs (where required and at the discretion of Head of Performance Development).
  • Be a willing participant in Triage services offered within the GPS seasons.

Strength and Conditioning Coach - BGS Swimming

  • This position will have a heavy swimming emphasis.
  • Work in conjunction with BGS swimming head coach, and other development coaches year-round and within the GPS season.
  • Program for and manage Micro and Junior squads dry land training.
  • Program for and manage State Development, National Development, and National Performance strength and conditioning programs.
  • Load monitor and provide rehabilitation adjustments individually for State Development, National Development, and National Performance programs.
  • Provide scientific and best practice prescription and testing in alignment with Swimming Queensland and Swimming Australia.

Expected Qualifications & Skills

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Exercise or Sport Science.
  • Current ASCA Level 2
  • Current Blue Card or ability to obtain
  • Proven understanding of LTAD theory and frameworks.
  • Proven expertise and experience in the design, and implementation of all areas relevant to athletic development in the development setting.
  • Excellent communication skills with parents, students and colleagues across a range of environments.
