To take full ownership of the coordination and delivery of referee services for Basketball Queensland’s junior State Championships and affiliated junior competition rounds. This includes the recruitment, management, rostering, and logistical support of referees, ensuring high-quality officiating standards and positive tournament experiences for all stakeholders.
Duties/Responsibilities
Fully manage referee appointments for all Basketball Queensland junior State Championships and affiliated junior competition rounds.
Source and appoint suitably qualified referees and referee coaches.
Coordinate rostering across all relevant events, ensuring appropriate referee coverage.
Oversee tournament logistics for officials, including accommodation, travel (in conjunction with the BQ Travel Arranger), and venue coordination.
Manage post-event payments for officials, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
Liaise with club and association delegates to ensure the attendance of qualified and appropriately accredited officials.
Support the delivery of referee development activities, including performance reviews, accreditation checks, and feedback sessions during tournaments.
Assist in the implementation of referee education programs in collaboration with the Technical Officials Development Manager.
Maintain accurate records related to appointments, payments, and feedback.
Provide logistical and administrative support for referee coach meetings, workshops, and development sessions.
Ensure adherence to all relevant Basketball Queensland policies, including child safety and risk management.
Represent Basketball Queensland professionally at events and act as a key contact for referees and associations.
Undertake other relevant duties as directed by the Technical Officials Development Manager.
Selection Criteria
Mandatory:
Demonstrated experience in basketball officiating, referee development, or official coordination.
Strong planning, rostering, and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple events and deadlines.
High-level communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with referees, coaches, clubs, and stakeholders.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email systems, and online management tools (e.g. Refbook, Google form).
Experience in logistical planning and coordinating large-scale events or programs.
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team culture.
A solution-oriented approach, particularly when handling time-sensitive or complex issues.
Demonstrated understanding of basketball officiating pathways and competition structures.
Current driver’s licence and access to a roadworthy vehicle.
Must hold or be eligible to hold a Blue Card under Queensland's Working with Children legislation.
Desirable:
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar officiating, events, or sports management role.
Tertiary qualifications in sports management, teaching, or related fields.
Experience using referee management software (e.g. Refbook, Hudl).
An understanding of Basketball Queensland’s competition framework and development programs.
