Likewise, the on-field achievements of our AFL Women’s and GIANTS Netball teams are seeing the club connect with more fans and followers than ever before.
Off field, the club’s exciting, innovative, and fresh brand is growing as it engages with members, fans, the community and key stakeholders across Western Sydney, Canberra and Nationally.
The GIANTS’ AFL and AFL Women’s teams are based at the club’s elite training and administration facility in Sydney Olympic Park, with GIANTS Netball based adjacent at Netball Central.

Position Purpose
The Head Trainer will provide sports trainer care for the AFLW program, as well as co-ordination of a team of trainers and massage therapists.
The Head Trainer will work as part of the High-Performance Department and will be required throughout the AFLW season, including attending and/or managing resourcing for pre-season training, pre-season games, AFLW home and away games and scrimmage matches.
The role covers training sessions three times a week across the pre-season (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday) and manages the trainers and massage schedule while in-season the role covers two training sessions per week (Tuesday and Thursday) as well as game day (home and away as per AFLW fixture) and manages the trainers and massage schedule.
Contract Hours and Length:
- 12 hours per week, May - November
Roles and Responsibilities
Player Preparation for Training, Games and Travel
- Assist with trainers and medical team with strapping of players as required.
- Set up of training supplies and requirements for training, games and travel.
- Liaising with AFLW Property & Logistics Manager on trainers' requirements for training, games and travel.
- Treatment of players on away trips in conjunction with medical team as required.
Player Hydration and Medical Care for Training and Games
- Set up, preparation and running fluids to players during games and training sessions.
- Provision of basic first aid and medical assistance on game and training days under the guidance of the Head of High Performance and alongside the medical team.
Ordering of Supplies and Trainers Equipment Management
- Organisation and management of equipment required by trainers for training, games and travel.
- Ordering of required supplies such as strapping tape, braces etc. as directed by the Head of High Performance.
Management of Trainer and Massage Therapists Schedule
- Manage schedule for trainers and massage therapists as per training and match requirements and within budget guidelines.
Desired Skills and Knowledge
- Adequate years of experience in professional sporting environment.
- Ability to follow clear verbal or written instructions.
- Up to date knowledge of current AFL/W trainers’ guidelines.
- Excellent time management, organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Must be able to work well with other members of the football department.
- Understanding of AFL/W is ideal, but not essential.
- Massage qualifications optional - opportunity for additional casual hours as massage therapist within the program.
