The Opportunity

Coaching and umpiring are the lifeblood of sport and a significant contributor to growing participation. To be successful in this role you will be an intrinsically motivated individual with lots of positive energy, a passion for the role and the impact of coaches and umpires make on the game.  

Reporting to the Workforce Development Manager (based in Brisbane) the Workforce Development Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development of a strong, innovative coaching and umpiring workforce within Queensland. This includes providing administrative support and the planning and coordinating of coach and umpire education and development workshops, programs and resources. Being regionally based, you will also support Netball Queensland staff and programs in Townsville and other rapidly growing regions. 

The Workforce Development Coordinator will contribute to increasing participation in netball by ensuring coaches and umpires have access to the development, support and tools they need to thrive.  You will ensure this is possible by implementing a high level logistics framework that will attract and support volunteers to become community coaches and umpires.  Ultimately, you will develop and implement an engaging, responsive, and enjoyable experience for those involved in coaching and umpiring development. This is more than an administrative role - it is a genuine support role contributing to the sustainability of netball in Queensland.  

This is a part-time role (4 days/ 30.4 hours per week) with some flexibility on days and hours per day. 

Responsibilities

Strategic Alignment 

  • Support the Workforce Development Manager to develop and deliver a robust workforce development strategy for Netball Queensland, focused on increasing and developing the capability of coaches and umpires at the community level.   
  • Support the Workforce Development Manager, Head of Talent Development and General Manager, High Performance to deliver strategic and operational plans. 
  • Liaise with Netball Australia to ensure alignment to the National Accreditation frameworks and systems.  
  • Work with member bodies across Queensland to develop simple and accessible systems that enable the tracking of workforce development across the State. 

Coach Development 

  • Coordinate coach education and development workshops, programs and resources. 
  • Respond to all enquires relating to Netball Australia’s National Coach Accreditation framework. 
  • Facilitate education and resources to promote the ‘Firebirds Way’ within community- and participation-level netball. 
  • Ensure all logistical components are in place for the effective delivery of high-quality coach development programs. 
  • Support the Participation team, particularly the Community Development Officers and Regional Managers, to enable them to deliver strong and well-regarded coach development programs across Queensland outside of the National Accreditation system.  

Umpire Development 

  • Coordinate umpire education and development workshops, programs and resources. 
  • Respond to all enquires relating to Netball Australia’s National Umpire Accreditation system. 
  • Support the creation of non-accredited education content to support community officials and association umpire convenors including the Umpire Development Webinar Series, Netball Learning Content and the Community Toolbox. 
  • Coordinate the payment process for officials at all Netball QLD competitions. 
  • Coordinate resource order and delivery to member associations. 
  • Support CDOs in the delivery of non-accredited umpiring workshops in their region. 
  • Support the delivery of officiating services at all Netball QLD competitions including umpires, umpire coaches and bench officials. 
  • Support the delivery of Netball Australia’s official’s accreditation systems in alignment with the National Umpire Development Framework. 

Administration and Reporting  

  • Assist with the reporting on coach and umpire development programs, workshops, and accreditations. Support an effective Statewide communication process around accreditation and together with the Workforce Development Manager develop and maintain an efficient system for member associations to access information on coach and umpire accreditation. 
  • Together with the Workforce Development Manager develop and maintain a database of workshop presenters that can be used across Queensland and with regional areas being a priority. 
  • As requested, support the Workforce Development Manager with administrative tasks to manage the annual Workforce development budget including tracking and reporting on expenditure. 
  • Undertaking projects from time to time as directed by the General Manager, Netball and/or General Manager, High Performance. 
  • Support other regional programs where practical.

  • Advanced understanding and application of Microsoft Office suite.

  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills, with high attention to detail.  
  • Experience in planning and managing competing priorities including delivery, scheduling, reporting and financial management skills.
  • Excellent project management skills, including managing timelines, setting, and meeting deadlines, evaluating progress, and related administration skills.
  • High standard of written and verbal communication and collaboration skills 
  • Responds effectively to direction, takes ownership of tasks, manages multiple tasks, prioritises workload, follows set procedures, sees tasks through to completion and works to a high standard. 
  • Demonstrated high level of integrity, self-motivation, and ability to work as part of a team.
