At Basketball Australia (BA) it is our vision that basketball will be the sport of choice for Australian families in the 21st century. As the governing body of basketball in Australia, we are a not-for-profit business who work collaboratively to grow the sport with our basketball Members, the eight State & Territory Basketball associations.

We proudly manage our elite national teams (Boomers & Opals, Rollers & Gliders plus men’s and women’s 3x3), our Centre of Excellence facility, elite competitions including, the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL), major international FIBA events, national junior championships and as well as Australian basketball’s official junior game development program, Aussie Hoops.

What is the role?

The CoE is BA’s elite national, residential basketball training program and the pathway for junior elite emerging basketball athletes in Australia. It is a flagship, internationally renowned program critical to the success of Australian basketball on the international stage and the achievement of the strategic objectives of BA.

In this highly organised, athlete focussed role, the Athlete Services Coordinator provides daily operational, administrative, and functional support to the elite residential athletes of the CoE Program. The Coordinator will support and meet the needs of athletes and coaches as they train, attend school, and compete in domestic and international events.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Liaise with and support the daily operational and administrative requirements associated with athletes residing at the CoE.
  • Coordinate the travel and organisational logistics for athlete education, health, and wellbeing activities.
  • Liaise with the Australian Institute of Sport and Basketball Australia High Performance Management on the residential requirements for the program athletes.
  • Coordinate athlete domestic travel and logistics of the CoE Programs with scope to include International.
  • Maintain ongoing communication to parents/carers and other stakeholders.
  • Provide support to the program coaches in the provision of on-court sessions, including equipment and requirements.
  • Coordinate the administration and recording keeping of athlete information, documentation, and uniforming needs.
  • Assist with any administrative requirements in relation to education records of athletes if needed.
  • Provide administrative support to BA COE coaches.
  • Liaise with external service providers regarding athlete specific activities and requirements.

Other relevant Information:

The role is full time and due to the nature of the industry and the residential program, the role will require part of the work to be undertaken on some weekends in line with events or competitions. This position is located at the AIS in Canberra and is undertaken on site. This position may require limited domestic travel.

You will have:

  • Previous experience in a similar role preferably in elite sport.
  • Previous experience in working with a number of stakeholders and managing the priorities of others is essential.
  • Experience using and competence with MS Office systems in administrative role.
  • Experience in booking and organising travel and team logistics preferred.
  • An understanding of the basketball environment.
  • Unrestricted driver’s licence (light rigid vehicle license is desirable)
  • Working with Children clearance (or state equivalent)

  • Effective communicator with excellent articulation skills (both written and verbal) to relate to athletes, parents and academic teachers, coaches across our NPP pathway. 
  • Hold a high level relationship management capability.
  • A problem solver who is able to assess risk and navigate complex issues.
  • Be authentic, truly inclusive and be committed to providing a positive and safe environment for all.
