High Performance Sport New Zealand's (HPSNZ) vision is to inspire the nation through more New Zealanders winning on the world stage at Olympic/Paralympic Games and World Championships, with a focus on targeted sports.
We are now recruiting for an applicant with research experience, data skills, and a passion for excellence in sport performance to join our Intelligence team, working specifically in the Knowledge Edge for Tokyo programme.
Through Knowledge Edge for Tokyo, we capture and analyse the preparation and performance evidence of New Zealand's athletes, coaches, and support staff as they prepare for competition at the highest level. In collaboration with National Sport Organisations, we use quantitative and qualitative research methods to uncover patterns in how people perform, behave, and think. We provide evidence-based insights back to New Zealand's coaches, athletes, and sports leaders to support their decision-making.
We are ready for a researcher to join Knowledge Edge for Tokyo in helping sports to uncover important insights. You will have some experience in research, data analysis, and reporting. You will help to create and develop tools for analysing and communicating data in order to advance intelligence practices within HPSNZ.
Some familiarity with (or readiness to learn) the following would be advantageous:
- Thematic analysis and natural language processing
- Relational databases (e.g., SQL)
- Programming languages for working with data (e.g., R, Python, Stata)
- Visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
The skills you bring will help New Zealand succeed. If you have a research and reporting background, are eager to learn and extend your skills, and would be proud to help our kiwi athletes gain a competitive advantage, then this is an outstanding professional opportunity for the successful applicant.
To apply for the role, please upload your CV and cover letter, stating in your cover letter which location you would prefer (Auckland / Dunedin / Cambridge).
