Detailed Description

The Rockingham Swimming Club is a growing swimming club that has a proud history in excess of 60 years and has committed to the WAIS Southern High Performance Training Centre program. The club management sees the opportunity to hire a Junior Head Coach with the desire to continue to create a strong underpinning club.  

Results over the past three years have seen a steady improvement with club rankings at national age/open and open water championships. Further success will occur with the commitment & guidance of a dedicated career-minded coach who is able to embrace a team culture that already exists within the club. The role requires a clear vision and leadership to drive the club’s success at junior and state level.

The Role

The club currently caters for approximately 200 swimmers year round, from junior to National Age squads. The selected candidate’s role will be to manage and coach the Junior program. This will include mentoring and up-skilling coaches, ensuring the smooth running of the junior program and being accountable for club results.

  • She/he will work collaboratively with the Head coach and will be involved in helping other junior coaches feed swimmers into senior squads. This will include pool deck time coaching/instructing junior swimmers in preparation for progression and mentoring junior coaches to ensure continuity throughout the program.
  • The successful candidate will be a strong leader who is willing to work with many stakeholders, including Swimming WA, WAIS and the club committee and can provide direction and guidance to the club and coaching team.
  • The role will have approximately 24 hours of pool deck time, plus additional time required to manage, plan and monitor the program.
  • The successful candidate must show an understanding of what it will require to take ownership of the Junior area, leading to the achievement of growth and results. This will include parent and committee education in relation to the program’s objectives and direction.

The Junior Head Coach will work in conjunction with the Head Coach; they will be expected to have a keen interest and commitment in the club’s overall development which will include canvassing & working with local schools and community to attract potential swimmers and to take an active part with other club based initiatives to help build the membership base that will ensure future success.

Location

The Rockingham Swimming Club trains at the Aqua Jetty facility in Warnbro (approximately 10 mins south of Rockingham). Squads can utilize both 25m (indoor) and 50m (outdoor) lane space as well as group fitness, gym and spin rooms.

Salary

To be negotiated depending on candidate qualifications and experience. Salary to include superannuation and 4 weeks agreed paid vacation, as well as professional development opportunities.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Silver license or silver license candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Coaches who have placed swimmers into State/National Age finals and have proven they can run a Junior program.

Fitness industry qualification or Strength and Conditioning Coach Accreditation.

Sports science undergraduate degree (or working towards).

 This role is designated Elite Athlete Friendly meaning the employer is open to accepting expressions of interest from elite athletes who require flexible work arrangements for training and competition.
