This course is for people who want to develop skills required for employment within outdoor recreation centres.
You will learn how to conduct activities and programs with clients in an outdoor recreation context. You will develop core skills required to work in the outdoor recreation industry such as how to facilitate groups, apply risk analysis processes, interpret weather conditions and respond to emergency situations.
You will develop personal and guiding skills for a selected range of outdoor activities: climbing (top rope, artificial surface), canoeing (flat water), ropes courses (high and low), adventure-based learning and an introduction to mountain biking.
HOURS AND LOCATIONS
The course is held over 18 weeks commencing 5 Feb 2018 with a break over Easter for industry placement. The proposed timetable is: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 9:30am to 5:00pm. You should allow another day per week for completing written assignments. Approvimately 50% of classes will be taught at Loftus Campus and the remainder at venues and centres across Sydney and as far South as the Southern Highlands.
This is a Smart and Skilled funded course with fees of $240 - $2,550 depending on your situation. Calculate your fee on the TAFE NSW course page. You will need to provide your own outdoor clothing, a MTB for the cycling, and transport, meals and accommodation as required.
