The Level 2 Sports Trainer Course is designed for experienced trainers ready to deepen their clinical reasoning, hands-on capability, and professional standing. This nationally recognised accreditation prepares trainers to operate confidently as lead trainers and in higher-performance sporting environments, including state and national competitions.
This program blends mandatory online learning with an intensive, full-day practical workshop delivered by senior sports medicine professionals at the SA Sports Institute. It focuses on advanced injury assessment, management decision-making, and enhanced treatment skills.

Entry & Completion Requirements
To finalise Level 2 accreditation, participants must:
- Have completed a minimum of 50 hours as a Level 1 Sports Trainer
- Hold current First Aid and CPR certification
- Complete required Sport Integrity Australia and Asthma First Aid online modules
- Complete the Level 2 online learning component (provided upon registration)
- Attend and complete all components of the practical day
Note: Accreditation is processed once all requirements are completed within a 12-month period.
You will develop advanced capability in:
- Spinal and concussion injury management
- Advanced sports wound care
- Advanced taping techniques
- Introduction to sports massage
- Asthma management in sporting environments
- Principles of sports psychology
- Injury management for special populations
All modules are delivered by qualified sports medicine professionals, including doctors, physiotherapists, sports scientists and nurses.
Accreditation & Professional Pathway
Successful candidates receive a nationally recognised Level 2 Sports Trainer Accreditation (valid for three years) and become eligible to apply for SASMA Sports Trainer Membership and insurance. Level 2 Sports Trainers often work as lead trainers within clubs and at elite and representative competitions, playing a pivotal role in athlete safety and performance.
