ABOUT THE ROLE:
Reporting to the VFL Operations Manager, this role works closely with the VFL Senior Coach and assists the VFL Forward Line Coach to design and deliver high-performance training programs and game strategies that align with the Richmond Football Club’s purpose: Belonging, Thriving and Winning.
The VFL Forward Line Development & Bench Coach plays a critical role in supporting the continued growth, skill development and performance of VFL players at VFL and local level. The focus is on creating an environment where players are equipped to succeed both on and off the field, developing the capability, confidence and professionalism required to perform at the level. Working in close collaboration with the coaching and coaching development teams, the VFL Forward Line Development & Bench Coach is responsible for enhancing player skill acquisition, development and overall football performance in a designated line.
The VFL Forward Line Development & Bench Coach will require availability throughout November to February for training, and x2 trainings and every game day during VFL home and away season.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop a designated line group at training, driving high performance standards, and fostering a connected, accountable, and progressive VFL environment.
- Deliver craft and game model training sessions in collaboration with the Senior Coach and coaching team to ensure alignment with the team’s tactical framework and performance objectives.
- Support the Senior Coach in the ongoing development and execution of training drills and craft sessions.
- Assist with the integration and development of train-on players within the VFL training environment.
- The Development Line Coach will be required to perform the role of Bench Coach and other coaching duties on match day, as directed by the Senior Coach.
- Attend designated scheduled training sessions and matches (including interstate travel) and practice matches as required by the Senior Coach and Football Operations staff.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Minimum AFL Level 1 Coaching Accreditation, with Level 2 or 3 accreditation highly regarded.
- Demonstrated coaching experience within a high performance environment with AFL, VFL or pre-elite football program preferred, with a proven ability to contribute within a high-performance sporting environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of the technical and tactical elements of football required to achieve success at an elite or high-performance level.
- Current Working with Children Check or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
- Proven experience leading, motivating and inspiring individuals or teams to achieve performance outcomes and collective success.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse, multidisciplinary team environment.
- High emotional intelligence with an approachable and professional manner, combined with a strong work ethic and commitment to team success.
- Positive, resilient and adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic and demanding environment.
- A genuine passion for and strong knowledge of Australian Rules Football, with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
- Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional development, with a strong desire to continually build knowledge, capability and impact as a coach.
- Strong sense of accountability, consistently modelling authentic high-performance behaviours and professional standards.
