About the Role

Reporting to the Basketball Operations Manager, the Competitions Manager is responsible for competition scheduling and administration, referee allocation and standards, and court supervision on local competition nights.

This is a part-time role, 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 3:00pm to 9:00pm (hours may vary slightly for overtime games or finals).

What You'll Be Doing

Competition Operations

  • Manage junior and senior local competition operations, administration and participant enquiries
  • Schedule competitions and communicate draws, fixtures and changes to teams, coaches and managers
  • Administer Basketball Connect (or current platform): registrations, nominations, results, ladders, grades and team lists
  • Process clearances, transfers and player eligibility checks, and manage re-draws and re-scheduling
  • Manage trophies, medals, awards and end-of-season presentations

Court Supervision

  • Act as Court Supervisor during designated local competition fixtures
  • Ensure games start and run on time, and the venue is set up and packed down correctly
  • Confirm scoretable staff are present, briefed and supported
  • Manage incidents during games, including behaviour, injuries and disputes

Referee Management

  • Coordinate referee allocations with the Referee Coordinator / RDO
  • Monitor officiating quality and provide constructive feedback
  • Support referee development, mentoring and pathway opportunities
  • Manage referee-related issues on the night, including no-shows and complaints

Who We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of basketball and domestic competition operations
  • Working knowledge of IBA and Basketball NSW by-laws, codes of conduct and competition rules
  • Ability to manage multiple games, people and issues at once on a competition night
  • Clear, calm communication with players, coaches, parents, referees and volunteers
  • Sound judgement, discretion and conflict resolution
  • Competent with competition software (PlayHQ or equivalent)

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current Provide First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain before commencement)
  • Willingness to obtain Community Referee (Level 1A) accreditation if not already held
  • Agreement to the Basketball Illawarra Staff Code of Conduct and uniform standards
