Mackay Basketball Inc. (MBI) is seeking applications from highly qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Head Coach for the NBL1 McDonald's Mackay Meteorettes for the 2027 NBL1 North Season.
Overview:
As Head Coach, you will work closely with the Mackay Basketball team to build and lead a highly competitive Meteorettes program. Mackay Basketball will support you with the administration and recruitment of players within the approved program budget, allowing you to focus on coaching, leadership and performance. Your leadership will be central to maintaining and strengthening the culture of togetherness, accountability and excellence that defines the Meteorettes program, both on and off the court.
A key responsibility of the role will be to strengthen the connection between the NBL1 program and Mackay Basketball’s Junior Representative Teams, helping to establish a clear and consistent pathway for player development within the Association. The successful candidate will play an important role in identifying and developing emerging local talent, fostering relationships with junior coaches and creating opportunities for young athletes to aspire to and progress into the NBL1 program.
The role also places a strong emphasis on community engagement. The Head Coach will be an ambassador for the Meteorettes and Mackay Basketball, building positive relationships with players, coaches, families, volunteers, sponsors and the broader Mackay Basketball community. Through strong leadership both on and off the court, the successful candidate will help ensure the Meteorettes remain a program that the Mackay Basketball community is proud to support.

- Demonstrated experience coaching at NBL1 level or within a high-performance basketball environment.
- A commitment to developing local Mackay talent and strengthening a clear pathway for high-performing junior athletes into the NBL1 program.
- The ability to oversee and develop the Mackay U23 program as an integral feeder pathway into the NBL1 program.
- The ability to establish and maintain a professional, high-performance culture built around development, accountability, community involvement, pride and togetherness.
- A highly organised and adaptable approach, with the ability to work collaboratively within the broader structure and strategic direction of Mackay Basketball.
- A willingness to actively engage with Mackay Basketball’s junior programs, coaches and community initiatives, recognising the Head Coach’s role as an ambassador for the Association.
