Description

Nuna Cheltenham is seeking a professional, reliable and enthusiastic Casual Squad Coach to join our growing coaching team.

As part of Nunawading Swimming Club - one of Australia’s leading swimming clubs and performance pathways - Nuna Cheltenham supports swimmers from junior development through to state and national competition. This is an excellent opportunity for a developing coach who wants to strengthen their skills within a supportive and highly experienced coaching environment.

The role

Working primarily at our Cheltenham program, the Casual Squad Coach will deliver high-quality coaching to junior and developing swimmers. Hours may include weekday mornings and afternoons, weekend sessions, squad coverage and attendance at selected competitions.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate squad sessions;
  • Providing clear instruction on swimming skills, drills, technique and race development;
  • Supporting swimmers to develop confidence, sound training habits and a positive connection with competitive swimming;
  • Maintaining a safe, inclusive and well-organised training environment;
  • Communicating professionally with swimmers, parents and other coaches;
  • Assisting the wider coaching team at training sessions and competitions;
  • Completing attendance records and reasonable session-related administration;
  • Following the Club’s child-safeguarding, health and safety, and reporting requirements; and
  • Upholding the Club’s values, Codes of Conduct and team-first approach.

About you

You will be dependable, punctual and prepared for each session. You will enjoy working with young swimmers and understand that effective coaching combines technical knowledge with encouragement, consistency and appropriate professional boundaries.

You will also demonstrate:

  • A genuine interest in developing swimmers and progressing your own coaching capability;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • A collaborative and adaptable approach;
  • Sound judgement and a commitment to athlete wellbeing;
  • Willingness to receive feedback and learn from senior coaches; and
  • Availability across relevant squad training times, including some early mornings, afternoons and weekends.

Essential requirements

  • Current Australian Swim Coach Licence, where required under the Swimming Australia National Coaching Framework;
  • Current Victorian Working with Children Check;
  • Current CPR and First Aid qualifications;
  • National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one;
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development; and
  • Existing Australian working rights, as visa sponsorship is not available.

Applicants who have completed an approved squad-fundamentals or competitive-strokes course and are progressing towards Development Coach accreditation may also be considered.

Why join Nuna Cheltenham?

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Work within one of Australia’s most respected swimming programs;
  • Learn from experienced coaches across the Nunawading coaching pathway;
  • Develop experience with junior and competitive squads;
  • Access coaching development and progression opportunities;
  • Attend selected competitions as part of the coaching team; and
  • Contribute to a growing program with a strong Learn-to-Swim and junior-development foundation.

Employment is casual, with hours determined by program requirements, availability and squad coverage. Additional work may be available across Nunawading Swimming Club and its associated programs.

If you are committed to quality coaching, athlete development and being part of a professional team, we would be pleased to hear from you.
