Wallan Basketball provides a comprehensive basketball program for the players in the outer-Northern suburbs and lower-central Country Victoria. The domestic programs include Aussie Hoops for 5-7 year olds, Under 8-16 domestic competition for 6-15 year olds, and senior domestic for adults. Our representative programs include Under 10-20 junior teams that participate in tournaments, VJBL and Country Champions, and senior teams in CBL and Big V.
Wallan Basketball strives to be a leading team in the relevant Division of the BigV. We have teams that participate in both the D2 Men’s and D2 Women’s competitions, as well as D2 Men’s and Women’s Youth League competition.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The BigV Men’s or Women’s Head Coach is responsible for leading their respective BigV program at Wallan Basketball and will work with the Senior Committee to achieve successful outcomes in our BigV Program, both on and off the court. The BigV Head Coach is responsible for all coaching and other related duties as required to have a successful team in BigV.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work effectively with key stakeholders
Work within designated team budget
Recruit suitably experienced players within the designated budget
Recruit team staff to the program to enhance the core playing group with a focus on developing our own Wallan players
Perform an extensive pre-season for the season including training and practice matches
Attend all training sessions, games and tournaments as fixtured, further to this ensure virtual sessions are run in case of potential lockdowns
Ability to work with WBI Senior coaching panel
Attend all professional development opportunities and coach meetings organized by WBI and/or the Senior coaching panel
Oversee the whole of gender program, including the Youth League program
Work closely with the BigV Youth League coach and meet on a regular basis
Provide a summary report of the performance of the team at the end of the season
Conduct exit/end of season player interviews
Adhere to the Basketball Victoria Codes of Conduct and BigV policies
Adhere to the WBI BigV Policy to ensure the achievement of desired outcomes
Encourage regular team and player engagement with the VJBL and junior domestic teams.
Oversee and facilitate the achievement of team fundraising budgets.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Experience in basketball coaching with a Representative (Level 2/Association) or higher Accreditation
Proven ability to coach and lead a senior program
Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop players and teams
Demonstrated history in basketball with a passion to develop at the desired level
Able to lead, train and communicate with players in a disciplined, professional and informative manner
Strong coaching philosophy
Hold and maintain a Current Working with Children’s Check
A strong commitment to basketball in Wallan and surrounds
Adherence to Basketball Victoria’s Coaches Code of Conduct
Outstanding communication and organisation skills
Willingness to be a positive role model
Commitment to the team with an ability to make all training sessions and games
Commitment to implement WBI’s PDP and BigV Policy
