The Opportunity
Q Performance Physiotherapy is seeking a physiotherapist to lead physiotherapy services across the Queensland Firebirds Academy, Queensland Firebirds Reserves and Netball Queensland U16 and U18 State Team programs.
This is a hands-on role within the Queensland Firebirds performance pathway. The successful candidate will provide direct training and competition coverage and manage athletes from initial injury assessment through rehabilitation, return to training and return to competition.
The Firebirds pathway component is a fixed 0.3 FTE position. There is also the option to combine the role with a clinical caseload at Q Performance Physiotherapy, creating a flexible position of up to 1.0 FTE for the right candidate.
About the Role
The successful candidate will take responsibility for physiotherapy delivery across the Academy, Reserves and state pathway programs.
You will work closely with the Queensland Firebirds Head Physiotherapist, Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach, coaching staff and broader performance team to provide coordinated athlete care across the Firebirds pathway.
A key focus of the position is maintaining continuity of care as athletes move between the state teams, Academy, Reserves, Training Partner positions and senior Queensland Firebirds squad.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return-to-performance planning across the Queensland Firebirds Academy.
- Providing physiotherapy coverage for Queensland Firebirds Reserves training and competition.
- Leading physiotherapy support for the Netball Queensland U16 and U18 State Team programs.
- Managing Queensland Firebirds Training Partners jointly with the Queensland Firebirds Head Physiotherapist.
- Developing clear rehabilitation plans and objective progression criteria for return to training and competition.
- Working closely with Strength and Conditioning staff to deliver integrated gym-based and court-based rehabilitation.
- Communicating athlete availability, restrictions and rehabilitation progress to coaches and performance staff.
- Maintaining accurate clinical records, athlete availability information and injury surveillance data.
- Completing mid-season and end-of-season injury reviews.
- Coordinating referral to the Queensland Firebirds Head Physiotherapist, Sports Doctor, medical specialists or other providers where required.
About You
This role would suit a physiotherapist who enjoys working with developing athletes and wants to contribute meaningfully within a high-performance pathway environment.
You will be comfortable taking clinical responsibility, making clear decisions and working collaboratively with coaches, Strength and Conditioning staff and other physiotherapists.
You will bring:
- Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a physiotherapist.
- Demonstrated experience working as a physiotherapist in a sporting environment at club, school, pathway or higher-performance level, including managing athletes through rehabilitation, return to training and return to competition, and working closely with Strength and Conditioning coaches to deliver integrated rehabilitation programs.
- Strong clinical assessment, reasoning and rehabilitation-planning skills.
- Clear and professional communication skills.
- The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary performance team.
- A current Queensland Working with Children Check, or the ability to obtain one before commencing.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends and travel for Reserves competition and the National Netball Championships.
- Full Australian working rights. Visa sponsorship and relocation support are not available for this position.
Experience in elite netball or another high-performance female team-sport environment will be highly regarded.
Experience with athlete management systems, GPS or training-load information, and objective testing technology such as VALD will also be advantageous.
Working Arrangements
The Queensland Firebirds Academy, Reserves and Pathways component is a fixed 0.3 FTE position.
Indicative commitments include:
- Tuesday and Thursday evening training.
- Saturday morning training or competition coverage.
- Approximately one week of travel for the Netball Queensland U16 and U18 State Team National Championships.
- Weekly Queensland Firebirds Reserves competition coverage, including approximately three to four weekend or overnight trips.
- Reduced Academy coverage following the Reserves season.
Exact dates and schedules will be confirmed once the relevant training and competition calendars are finalised.
Optional Q Performance Clinic Role
Candidates may also combine this position with a clinical role at Q Performance Physiotherapy in Windsor.
The clinic component is preferred but not essential. Total employment may be structured up to 1.0 FTE, depending on the successful candidate’s experience, availability and interest in building a sports physiotherapy caseload.
Q Performance provides a structured rehabilitation environment with access to gym-based rehabilitation, field-based rehabilitation, objective testing technology and the Rehab 360 model.
