Description

Illawarra Sports High School seeks to engage a dynamic professional with a proven record in leadership and management of elite rugby league programs, with strong practical knowledge of rugby league, coaching and development and an understanding of pathways in developing a comprehensive and progressive school rugby league program.

Rugby league sessions are conducted Tuesday and Thursday (12.45pm to 2.45pm) during school hours (4 hours per week – more with matches played and other training/development days)

Rates of pay will be commensurate to coaching experience and accreditation.

Start of role – Term 3 2026 with the possibility of further work in continuing years.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead Junior training sessions in collaboration with additional coaches and school staff.
  • Define and implement a consistent and appropriate training schedule and structure across the program that will facilitate the development of all players and facilitates their transition through the age groups into senior rugby league and representative pathways.
  • Individual feedback (verbal and written) to the players on their progress during the semester, highlighting areas of strength and areas for future development.
  • Provide guidance, insight, and input to students for them to take into consideration in regard to the selection of match squads and school teams.
  • Establish a rugby league relationship with relevant clubs and associations to facilitate an exchange of ideas, initiatives, and player evaluation.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Minimum of level 1 Coaching Qualification
  • Proven experience working in the area of elite talented player development
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience in youth rugby league
  • Proven experience working with a broad cross section of stakeholders (Principal, Staff, Students)
  • Proven experience managing coaching staff
  • Highly organised with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven team player
  • Mentoring and motivational skills
  • Valid Working with Children Employed (WWCE) credentials for paid work

All coaches must follow the Department of Education Code of Conduct and complete DoE screening, criminal checks and online learning.
