About the role
The Senior Academy Coach will play a critical role in leading the coaching program, alongside the young athlete development framework across the SEM Phoenix Basketball Academy. This role will oversee the design and delivery of the academy curriculum, ensuring a consistent, high-quality coaching experience that reflects the values and standards of the Club.
We are seeking a passionate and highly motivated individual who is able to play a key leadership role in coach education, parent communication, and the ongoing evolution of the academy pathway. This will further assist in establishing the Phoenix as a leader in junior basketball development across South-East Melbourne, through talent identification, alongside supporting young athletes engaged within the Academy Program.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, deliver and develop the Academy Coaching Curriculum, whilst ensuring age-appropriate progression and alignment with long-term athlete development principles.
- Oversee athlete development by providing leadership and direction across all academy programs.
- Mentor and support academy coaches, whilst additionally being involved within the recruitment and education aspect of coaching development.
- Lead the planning and delivery of academy training sessions.
- Support young athlete progression whilst developing athlete reporting systems.
- Identify emerging talent within the Academy.
Please note this is a part time, fixed term contract (12 months) that involves 2 x 1 hour session delivery (6:30 am - 7:30 am) per week and an additional administrative component.
The ideal candidate
You are a highly motivated individual who brings significant basketball coaching experience either within a pathway, representative, elite junior, collegiate or professional environment. You will bring exceptional attention to detail and thrive in a fast-paced sporting environment.
You can communicate confidently, whilst building strong relationships with young athletes, parents, coaches and other key stakeholders, with an ability to adapt to changing demands, whilst also meeting deadlines.
With experience in leading, mentoring and developing coaches, you will be able to design and implement athlete development programs and coaching curriculums. Being highly organised with an ability to plan and manage multiple programs simultaneously, you are also passionate about long-term athlete development and understand talent identification principles, whilst being excited by the opportunity to contribute to the Club and culture.
