Position Overview

Perry Lakes Hawks Basketball Association is seeking an experienced, motivated and highly organised Basketball High Performance Manager to lead the development, alignment and delivery of the Association’s high-performance basketball programs (WABL/NBL1).

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role will be responsible for strengthening the Association’s player and coach development pathways, supporting consistent coaching standards, promoting a clear style of play, and ensuring the Perry Lakes Hawks representative and elite programs are delivered professionally and in line with the Association’s strategic objectives.

The role is offered initiailly on a part-time basis of 20 hours per week, with flexibility required around trainings, games, tournaments, tryouts, and key Association activities.

Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this role is to lead and support the development of athletes and coaches across Perry Lakes Hawks Basketball Association, with a strong focus on representative basketball, talent identification, coach education, player progression and program alignment.

The role will help ensure that players and coaches are provided with clear expectations, structured development opportunities and a consistent pathway from junior basketball through to senior elite competition.

Key Responsibilities

High Performance Program Leadership

  • Lead the planning and delivery of the Association’s high-performance basketball framework.
  • Establish and promote a positive, disciplined and high-performance basketball culture.
  • Develop and implement consistent standards, expectations and philosophies across representative and pathway programs.
  • Support alignment between junior representative teams, development programs and senior basketball pathways.
  • Work with the CEO and basketball stakeholders to ensure the program supports the Association’s strategic direction.
  • Promote an environment that balances performance, development, athlete wellbeing and enjoyment.

Player Development and Pathways

  • Develop and oversee player development pathways from junior representative basketball through to senior elite competition.
  • Support the identification, development and monitoring of talented athletes across the Association.
  • Assist with individual player development planning, feedback and progression.
  • Work with coaches to monitor player workload, welfare and development needs.
  • Support players seeking progression into state, national, academy, college or professional pathways.
  • Liaise with relevant basketball bodies and programs to advocate for Perry Lakes Hawks athletes where appropriate.

Coach Development and Education

  • Lead coach education, mentoring and development across representative and pathway programs.
  • Support the recruitment, appointment, onboarding and retention of suitable coaches.
  • Provide coaches with resources, guidance and practical tools to improve training standards and game preparation.
  • Conduct coach meetings, observations, evaluations and reviews.
  • Promote coaching accreditation and ongoing professional development.
  • Ensure coaches understand and implement the Association’s style of play, standards and expectations.
  • Foster a collaborative coaching environment focused on shared learning and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Extensive basketball coaching experience, within representative, pathway or elite programs.
  • Demonstrated experience developing athletes and mentoring coaches.
  • Strong understanding of player development pathways and coaching principles.
  • Ability to lead coach education, training observations and performance feedback.
  • Strong communication, leadership and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage selection processes, player evaluations and program expectations.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity and attention to detail.
  • Basketball Australia Association Level accreditation or higher.
  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one.
  • Current driver’s licence.
