The Oceania Athletics Association (OAA) is one of six Area Associations of World Athletics (WA), representing 20 Member Federations and 3 Associate Member Federations across the Oceania region.

As the lead driver of OAA’s More Participation strategic pillar, the Competition Manager will play a key role in strengthening and modernising competition pathways across the region. This includes delivering high-quality Area Championships, supporting the growth of the World Athletics Continental Tour, enhancing Member Federation capacity, ensuring strong officiating standards, and creating competition environments that engage communities and inspire athletes at every level.
As we prepare for opportunities leading into Brisbane 2032 and beyond, the Competition Manager will play a central role in delivering high-quality events and strengthening competition pathways across Oceania. The Opportunity
OAA is seeking to appoint a Competition Manager for an initial two-year term, commencing July 2026, with the potential for continuation. The primary purpose of the role is to coordinate and administer all Oceania-related Athletics competitions and events in an efficient, effective, and athlete-centred manner, aligned with our More Participation strategic pillar.
While Oceania Athletics Association offers a flexible working environment, the role will be based at Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast, Queensland.
Key Responsibilities
Major Competitions - Experience in organising large-scale events (preferably sporting events) is essential.
Oceania Athletics Association Competitions include:
- Senior, U20 & U18, U16, Masters Track & Field Championships (held every 2 years)
- Cross Country Championships
- Road Championships (Half Marathon, Marathon)
- Walks Championships
- Combined Events
- Oceania Cup
- Oceania Masters Competitions
Core Duties
- Create and maintain the Oceania Area Competition Calendar, including World Athletics Continental Tour events, in collaboration with Member Federations and aligned with the World Athletics Global Calendar.
- Assist with the coordination of Athletics at the Pacific Games, Pacific Mini Games, Micro Games.
- Support Member Federations in developing and delivering National Championships as required.
- Manage competition budgets, event acquisition processes, host contracts, and supplier agreements.
- Develop new event concepts to attract new fans and participants.
- Ensure competitions leave a legacy by organising training and upskilling local officials and volunteers.
- Develop and implement Technical Referees’ training, education, and welfare programs (with the Development Co-ordinator).
- Maintain competition news on the OAA website and social media channels (with the Media & Communications Officer).
- Serve as Secretariat to the Oceania Athletics Competition Commission.
