Help connect and grow the flying disc community across Australia.

The Australian Flying Disc Association (AFDA) is looking for a Communications Coordinator to support the delivery of engaging, informative and community-focused communications across our sport.

This is a flexible part-time maternity leave cover position that would suit someone with communications, marketing, membership, not-for-profit or sporting organisation experience who enjoys writing, organising information, managing digital channels and helping communities stay connected.

Working closely with AFDA staff, volunteers and stakeholders, you will help ensure our members, clubs, athletes and partners receive timely and engaging information about programs, events, opportunities and achievements across the sport.

About AFDA

AFDA is the recognised National Sporting Organisation for flying disc sports in Australia. We support participation from grassroots programs and local clubs through to national championships and Team Australia campaigns competing internationally.

About the Role

This role focuses on coordinating and delivering communications across a range of channels.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing newsletters and stakeholder updates
  • Assisting with the rollout and ongoing management of AFDA's new website
  • Creating and scheduling social media content
  • Updating website content, news articles and event information
  • Supporting promotion of national events, participation programs and Team Australia activities
  • Developing stories that highlight participants, volunteers, clubs and community achievements
  • Assisting with communication planning and content calendars
  • Supporting sponsorship, partnership and grant communication requirements
  • Monitoring communication performance and engagement

This is a varied role that combines writing, content creation, digital communications and stakeholder engagement.

About You

You are organised, reliable and enjoy helping people access information and stay connected.

You may have experience in communications, marketing, membership services, administration, community engagement or not-for-profit organisations.

You will ideally bring:

  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience producing newsletters and email communications
  • Experience managing website content and digital platforms
  • Social media experience
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Confidence working with a range of stakeholders
  • A positive, collaborative approach

Experience in sport is welcome but not essential.

Employment Details

  • Part-time (0.4 – 0.6 FTE, negotiable)
  • Fixed-term maternity leave cover position (approximately six months)
  • Sporting Organisations Award – Clerical and Administrative Grade 6
  • Flexible work location within Australia

Essential Requirements

  • Sports Marketing / PR / Communications Degree
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience in communications and marketing.
  • Experience with social media management and digital marketing tools.
  • Website content management experience
  • Email marketing experience
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

Desirable Criteria

  • Graphic design and video editing
  • Knowledge of the sports industry and familiarity with event promotions.
  • Experience working in sport or not-for-profit organisations
  • Experience with WordPress or website CMS platforms
  • Photography and videography skills
  • Experience promoting events or participation programs
