Description

Media and Communications Coordinator
National Basketball League

A league breaking records. A new role. Yours to shape.

This role sits inside the team responsible for how the league is seen and heard across media, fans and the public.

It is a coordination role, not a senior one. But the work is real and the environment is serious. If you are early in your communications career and want to do it inside a league that is genuinely growing, this is worth a look.

About Us

The National Basketball League is regarded as one of the premier basketball leagues in the world, home to some of the world's best players, and truly a sports entertainment experience like no other. We're a league that's growing fast, thinking big and constantly raising the bar. If you're passionate about sport and want to be part of something that's genuinely on the rise, you'll find your place here.

The Role

You coordinate how the NBL shows in the media, and you take real pride in that.

Day to day, you will be:

  • Nurturing media relationships across print, digital and broadcast so the league always has warm, reliable contacts
  • Drafting and distributing media materials including press releases and media kits that reflect the quality of the NBL brand
  • Handling media enquiries with confidence, escalating complex matters so nothing falls through the cracks
  • Pitching stories that earn meaningful coverage and build profile around games, players and events
  • Writing across press releases, social, newsletters and website updates in the League's voice, consistently
  • Supporting live game and event coverage including press conferences and interviews
  • Delivering integrated communications for major moments including Finals, Awards and community programmes

Who We're Looking For

You are someone who understands that in sport, timing is everything, and communications is the difference between a story landing and a moment being lost.

You are the right fit if you:

  • Hold a degree or diploma in Communications, PR, Journalism or related field
  • Bring one to three years of experience in media, PR or communications
  • Write clearly and compellingly across different channels and audiences
  • Stay organised and accurate under pressure without dropping the ball
  • Are comfortable across digital media, social platforms and content tools
  • Hold a current driver's licence and Working With Children Check

And the non-negotiables: you are genuinely interested in sport. You follow the game, you understand the media landscape, and you care about how a league like this shows up publicly. You are the kind of person who reads a press release and immediately thinks of how to make it land harder.

Our Values

These are not a poster on the wall. They are how we operate every day.

Always Think Big. Be courageous. Be open to new ideas. Learn and grow. No limits.
Be Accountable. Own it. Ask for help. The scoreboard matters.
Integrity is Key. Act ethically. Act honestly. Keep our word.
Show Respect. Show care. Listen and seek to understand. Value opinions.
We Are Fans Too. Have fun. Always consider the fan. Share the love of the game.
One Team. Communicate. Trust each other. Celebrate the wins. Build relationships.

What's on Offer

  • Join a league that just broke its all-time attendance record
  • A new role with real scope to shape it
  • Access to the game, this is the NBL, not a desk job
  • Work alongside a team drawn from Nike, Tennis Australia, the AFL and the NBA ecosystem
