Description

About the Victorian Institute of Sport:

The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) was set up to assist the development of Victoria’s best athletes. It was established in 1990 by the State Government as a private trustee company, with its Board of Directors appointed by the Victorian Minister for Sport.

The VIS is located at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park. The VIS headquarters completed a renovation in February 2023, providing a brand new workspace for athletes and staff.  It is a non-residential institute, which utilises Melbourne’s outstanding sporting facilities, to allow high performance athletes to live and train in Melbourne, the sporting capital of Australia.

The VIS operates in partnership with National Sporting Organisations and State Sporting Associations to deliver high performance daily training environments (DTEs) for sports and athletes in support of the National High Performance Sport Strategy outcomes. Our facility and staff help prepare and support future and current Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth Games and World Champion athletes.

About the role:

As our Digital Marketing Specialist, you'll be at the centre of how the VIS shows up to the world. From the lead-up to the Olympics and Paralympics through to Commonwealth Games and World Championships, you'll shape the digital moments that capture the journey of Victoria's best athletes and connect them with audiences who care.

Working closely with the Public Affairs and Marketing Manager, you'll own the full digital ecosystem - social media, EDMs, website, marketing funnels and our Athlete Learning Management System and collaborate across the People & Community team to grow our audience, strengthen our reputation and bring our stories to life in ways that land.

This isn't just a content role. It's a chance to be part of the high-performance environment working alongside athletes, coaches and practitioners, staying close to competition results and athlete milestones, and finding new ways to communicate what the VIS does and why it matters.

The role's primary purpose is to:

  • Own our identity: Ensure the VIS brand is applied consistently across all digital channels, templates and platforms in line with brand guidelines, educating and assisting stakeholders to do the same.
  • Drive the digital ecosystem: Lead end-to-end marketing campaigns that grow VIS's audience and support commercial objectives.
  • Showcase our stories: Develop and execute content that creatively engages audiences, drives awareness and achieves strategic plan objectives.
  • Innovate & collaborate: Work across departments and teams, staying ahead of trends, athlete results and competitions, and find opportunities to communicate VIS stories with maximum impact across new channels.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Lead the creation and delivery of compelling digital content across social media, website, news articles and online publications.
  • Own the VIS website;  managing content updates, athlete profiles and campaign landing pages to ensure accuracy, freshness and SEO performance.
  • Own the production and delivery of all VIS EDMs, including scheduling, segmentation, reporting and ongoing optimisation.
  • Design and maintain marketing funnels that convert digital engagement into owned contacts, including automations for EDM subscribers, program enquiries and event sign-ups.
  • Support the development of educational content for the VIS Athlete Learning Management System, translating expert practitioner knowledge into accessible learning modules, articles and multimedia resources.
  • Regularly analyse traffic and trends across digital platforms to inform marketing strategy and planning.
  • Coordinate graphic design and marketing collateral production to ensure brand consistency across all channels.
  • Provide specialist digital support for VIS events, community programs and other organisational initiatives.
  • Provide leadership to the Social Media Assistant and Interns, supporting their growth and development.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 4+ years working in a marketing, communications, digital content or related role.
  • Tertiary qualification in media, communications, marketing or related field, or significant experience in a digital/marketing position.
  • Demonstrated experience owning social media accounts end-to-end: strategy, production, scheduling and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing EDM platforms including list management, automation and analytics.
  • Familiarity with web design and content management systems.
  • Solid knowledge of digital analytics and the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with a demonstrable ability to engage new stakeholders quickly and identify new opportunities.
  • Solid innovation and creativity skills to effectively design and deliver a variety of content and engagement activities to support VIS brand awareness.
